We are looking for a couple or two people sharing to join our already-established house share in Crouch End in North London.
A little bit about us and our home:
We are 7 people already, 4 male and 3 female (two couples) and two shy cats. Four of us moved in together in November 2010, some of us strangers, some already friends, and we've been joined by other wonderful people since! We're really keen on getting a nice/fun couple in as one of us has left for Australia. We hope it isn't just to get as far away from us as possible, but rather to pursue a new adventure!
We try as much as we can to 'live together'. We've got a great lounge that we hang out in several evenings a week. For entertainment, we've got an open fire place, a favourite local pub and pub quizzes, a projector on the wall, an Aeropress, and lots of DVDs (although we often prefer to chat / play games). We also try and cook for each other, though this doesn't always happen as much as we'd like it to.
We've currently got 1 vegetarian and 1 vegan in the house. We're keen to find more, but it's obviously not a requirement of living here!
We've also put in a lot of hours in the garden (with mixed success). We seem to be champions when it comes to growing both chard and blackberries (think brambles!), and depending on the year do alright with squash, potatoes, beans and courgettes. One of our priority jobs after moving in was to build a fire pit in the back, next to the pond.
It's a lovely garden in the summer, and there is still plenty more to do in it for anybody who would be so inclined (though you don't need to be gardening lover). As it's our collective responsibility to keep the brambles at bay and the grass somewhat short, we do expect a willingness to pitch in once in a while though.
The house itself is spacious enough for 9 people, with two bathrooms and one en-suite. Only 3-4 people usually work 9-5 out of the house, so there are rarely morning clashes over the showers. For common areas we've got a front 'hall' with a workbench and space for bags, coats, shoes and cycles and, if you want to have a dinner party, there's space to put up the dining table too. We also have a lounge mentioned above, and a nice well-equipped kitchen (the photo is from when we moved in - it looks a lot more lived in now!).
The room that is available is approximately 4 x 4. 5 metres, although a slightly odd shape as it's the converted attic, and is part-furnished with a double bed, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a small desk. It faces South East so gets the sun in the morning. It's a difficult room to photograph, but you'll get the idea from the photo. It has an en-suite attached to it, with a toilet and sink (no shower). The room is available now but we're willing to wait for the right people, so get in touch even if you can't move in immediately.
About us: We are all professionals and our ages range from mid 20s - early 30s. Occupations include IT, lighting design and engineering, television production, and environmental sustainability. And coffee. We've got two different nationalities so far: British and Danish but generally don't like borders. We also have two outdoor cats, but they don't spend much time in the shared areas of the house as they are a bit shy.
We're all a friendly bunch and are really very in love with our house (otherwise we probably wouldn't have lived here so long!).
And, the local area:
We are in a quiet residential area, just a few minutes walk from Crouch End, which has lots of nice cafes, shops, pubs, and supermarkets. We are also a short walk from woods and parks (including Alexandra Palace). In terms of transport, we are a 15 minute walk from Highgate (zone 3 on the Northern Line) or 15 minutes by bus from Finsbury Park (zone 2, Piccadilly and Victoria lines and National Rail). There is also a bus that can get you to Kings Cross in about 30 minutes. Some of us are keen cyclists.
As for the practical stuff:
As we'll be sub-letting the room directly to you, not through our landlord, we can be flexible about the contract, and would be interested to hear from you whether you want to stay a short or a long time, as we know short-terms contracts can be particularly hard to come by in London sometimes. Parking is available on the road with a permit.
The rent for the room for two people is £670 + £160 for all bills (incl council tax and unlimited high-speed internet), so £830 overall per month. The deposit is £1076. 50.
If you're still interested after reading all of this and think you would be a good match for us, get in touch with a little information about yourself and we can arrange a viewing and a meet-up.
