What is the Flatshare Census?
We're trying to get a clearer picture of who lives in shared housing in the UK and why.
Why are you doing this?
Renting is on the up and homeownership is falling. We're also seeing record numbers of people flatsharing, yet nobody ever asks flatsharers how they live and what's important to them.
Why is it important?
The data collected via the Government's regular Census is used to allocate hundreds of billions of pounds of government money to local authorities. If we don't have a true picture of how people live, how can the allocation of funds be fair?
Isn't this just a marketing exercise?
No. As the UK's leading flat and house share site, we already have more information on shared accommodation in the UK than anyone else. If we're going to convince government that shared housing matters we need as much information as possible so we'd like everyone to answer a few simple questions.
Some of the information you're asking for is personal - how do I know it will remain confidential?
None of the data we collect will be used in a way that makes it possible to identify you without your explicit consent. If there are any circumstances under which we'd like to use information that identifies you in any way we will always contact you first - if you say no we won't use it. It's as simple as that.
How many questions are there and how long will it take to fill in?
There are between 20 and 30 questions and we would expect you to be able to answer them all in 5-10 minutes. The exact number of questions you'll be asked depends on your answers - basically, if there are questions we can miss out based on your previous answers we won't show them to you.
