Large double room in homely house

I’m on the lookout for a new housemate for 1st April. I’m Robin, I’m a friendly and open minded 39 year old who runs his own business. I work from home but tend to be in and out quite a bit. I’m sociable and fairly laid back, but like to live in a relatively clean house, so I’m looking for someone who’s clean but not obsessively so. I’m politically left-leaning and generally care about what goes on in the world and try to be a good human.

I enjoy having my girlfriend and friends over for dinner and hosting small gatherings (when that’s allowed!) and am looking for a housemate who enjoys similar. I like to live in a homely environment where we can enjoy chats over a cuppa and occasionally eating together but also respect each others’ space.

The house includes a living room, dining room and small kitchen on the ground floor with two bedrooms and large bathroom on first floor. There’s a decent size garden with a patio, a lawn and an apple tree. The garden is a bit of a mess at the moment but I’m hoping to tidy it up in the spring to grow some things and make it a nice space for barbeques in the summer. Maybe even grow some veg. Ideally, the person moving in would be up for working together to make the garden nice.

There are the usual things like washing machine, fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle and I plan to get a freezer. Most of the downstairs furniture is going with my current housemate, but I have a van so shouldn’t be too difficult to get the furniture we need (I’ve become a bit of an expert bargain spotter on FB marketplace!) Equally I’m happy to help whoever moves in pick up any furniture for their room. There’s on street parking available and the area tends to be pretty quiet.

Also I’m thinking about getting a cat so you would need to be open to that.

Since the pandemic I’ve kept my contact with other people as limited as possible for a person who runs his own business. I care about keeping risk low, but also happy to have an open conversation about balancing risk with individual needs. Looking for a housemate who also cares about keeping risk low and is happy to have an open honest conversation about how to jointly approach this in a way that works for both of us.

Rent is £475 plus bills (roughly around £140 a month). Rent is paid directly to the agency, and bills are split between us. The room that’s available is the larger of the two in the house.
