Furnished Double Suite in Modern Home

Ad ref# 15747974

👋 Hi and thanks for taking time to look at our ad. We’re Leah and Ian and we’re looking for an awesome housemate to share our lovely 4-bedroom home in Waterlooville.

⏰ TL; DR: We have a fully furnished double room with en-suite shower in a large 4-bedroom house, sharing with 2 × friendly, mature professional singles. Private garden to the rear of the property; large, well-maintained green to the front. Close to local shops, takeaways, transport routes and popular business/office locations. Plenty of lovely walking/running/cycling routes right on the doorstep. Rent is £430 pcm (or £100 per week), bills inc. Sound interesting? More details 👇 or hit the button 👉 to get in touch!

🏡 The House: is in a quiet location on the southern fringes of the South Downs National Park with access to miles of walking and cycling trails through the local countryside starting right outside the front door. We’re situated right at the end of a no-through road, so there’s minimal traffic noise and rarely any problem finding somewhere to park. Despite that, we’re just a short drive (3 or 4 minutes) from the Waterlooville junction of the A3(M) which gives easy access to Petersfield, Guildford, and London to the North and to Chichester, Portsmouth, Fareham, and Southampton, via the A27/M27, to the South.

🏢 Local business locations such as Langstone Technology Park, SSE (Penner Road), QA Hospital and Lakeside North Harbour are all within easy commuting distance either by road, by bus from the town centre, or by bike if you like your exercise. It takes Ian 25 to 30 minutes to get to Lakeside by bike of a morning; the same journey by car takes maybe 10 or 15 minutes depending on the time of day. Commuting either to LTP or SSE is similar, QA Hospital is a little quicker.

🛏 The Room: is a double, approx. 3m × 2.9m (10′ by 9′6″), available for single occupancy. It is fully furnished, featuring a double divan with loads of under-bed storage, a double (built in) wardrobe with full-length mirrors, chest of drawers and bedside unit. The window, which looks out over the green to the front of the property, has a vertical blind and a pretty good set of room darkening curtains—perfect for those days when you just want to shut the world out and sleep late. There are five double plug sockets with USB ports for your gadget-charging needs dotted around the room; seriously, even the most hardcore tech warrior should be able to find somewhere to plug everything in! Bed linen, duvet, pillows, and towels are provided.

🚿 Additionally, there is a fully tiled en-suite shower room featuring WC; pedestal hand basin; a fantastic power shower (none of your gravity-feed nonsense here!); mirror; and heated towel-rail. There are also a couple of 2-pin 12V sockets suitable for shavers, toothbrushes, or other low-voltage appliances. Best of all: no queuing for a shower in the mornings! 😃

🛁 Next door is the shared bathroom which is similarly equipped to the en-suite described above, except that it sports a shower-over-bath arrangement rather than a dedicated shower cubicle. Realistically, the bath is probably the only reason you’d opt to use the bathroom instead of your own en-suite… still, it’s there and it’s almost always available for use (both of our rooms are also en-suite, so contention is basically zero).

🧑‍💻 Finally on the upstairs level is the spare room, which we’ve got setup with a computer desk/office chair combo to help support working from home (who wants to broadcast their bedroom on a Zoom call with the boss?! 😳). The room has a window overlooking the garden to the rear of the property; offers good WiFi and wired Ethernet connections; has plenty of power sockets to support the regular array of office-type equipment; and has a double wardrobe for additional storage if you need it. This could also be an ideal space for anyone studying with the OU or pursuing other professional qualifications.

🛋 Moving downstairs, the Lounge features the usual (if somewhat eclectic) assortment of furniture—including a super comfy, leather La-Z-Boy 3-seater sofa with manual recliner on each end; the obligatory flat screen TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ streaming services (Film Night!); enough books to start a small branch of Waterstones; and rather more Lego than you might normally expect to find in a house with no actual children!

👨‍🍳 Next to the lounge is a spacious, well-appointed Kitchen/Diner—perfect if you’re an enthusiastic and/or talented cook (unlike, say, Ian!). The room itself is about 4.8m × 3.8m (15′9″ by 12′6″) and has all the major appliances you’d expect—dishwasher; washing machine; a lovely big fridge/freezer; split-level electric oven; induction hob with extractor hood; combi microwave, oven & grill—as well as ample storage, and a worktop that runs around almost half the room. Completing the furnishing is a traditional, wooden kitchen table that comfortably seats six people, and which sits beside the French doors that overlook the back garden.

A bit about us:

😍 Leah works in manufacturing, making various hydraulic items and components for use in the medical sector. Her work is based on a shift pattern, so she needs to sleep during the day when she is between night shifts. Like Ian, Leah rides to work each day—although she has recently passed her theory test and recommenced driving lessons 😱 (just kidding, she’ll be brilliant 😀). When she’s not at work, Leah enjoys spending time with family, walking, going to the gym, watching crappy TV shows on Prime/Netflix, and making sure the local Deliveroo riders get plenty of exercise!

🤓 Ian is a professional mathematician; he works for a big telecoms company doing “Internet Stuff”. No-one’s exactly sure what that means, but he tends to talk about things like algorithms and decision boundary conditions a lot 🤷‍♂️. Despite being firmly rooted somewhere deep on the geek/nerd spectrum, Ian manages to do a convincing impression of a normal human being (most of the time) and has built a kick-ass WiFi network for the house. He is often found haunting the Kitchen, with coffee in hand; is partial to an occasional Netflix & pizza binge; and has been known to enjoy a cold beer at the weekend.

🐶 The undisputed Lord of the manor is Perry, Leah’s adorable ¾ Pug, ¼ Cavalier King Charles Spaniel cross (a “Pugalier”). Perry’s favourite activities are eating; chasing butterflies round the garden; eating; barking at the wheelie bins; eating; and pestering you until you feed him (he will absolutely use those big brown eyes to beg for treats whenever you are near the kitchen!). As you can see from the pictures, Perry is not a particularly big or physically intimidating dog, but he does have the run of the whole house—except for the bedrooms—and the garden, so potential housemates be warned!

🦸 Are you an awesome housemate?

First up, the whole house (including this room) is both no-smoking and no-vaping. If you want to smoke and/or vape then you will need to be OK with being banished to the garden.

After that, our two main requirements for a new housemate are: someone who’s happy and comfortable around dogs; and someone sensitive to the demands of shift work (i. e., need to be reasonably quiet during the day when others are asleep). Ideally you would also be professional, mature, easy-going, and tidy.

It’s important to us that we find someone where all three of us are comfortable living in the same home—we’re all for personal space and downtime, but we would prefer a housemate who’s happy to join us for takeaway and a cheesy film occasionally, rather than someone who’s going to be cooped up in their room the whole time. On balance, we would prefer someone looking for a home long-term but are willing to consider a short-term arrangement for the right person.
