Basement Flat within Community House: July-Dec '21

Front room

We have an opening in our community for the next six months (July-December inclusive), a one bedroom basement flat in our tumbledown Victorian house.

The basement is an interesting space! Accessible from the front garden down some stairs into a miniature courtyard/stair well with a hanging plant box and room for a couple of chairs, gets the morning sun.

Through glass doors there is a front room space, which is the main room of the flat. Beyond this there a corridor, off which is a bathroom (sink and bathtub/shower), a little raised sleeping area, a storage room, and a kitchen. From the kitchen a wooden staircase leads up to the main part of the house past the flat's toilet. Being below ground level there are are just a few small windows in the flat (apart from the garden doors) something to keep in mind.

Whole House Description:

Grove Park, is a community house project in Denmark Hill/Camberwell near Peckham Rye with 5 flats let as a whole or as rooms and a beautiful 70 meter garden. The vision of the project is to create a community practising a life of caring and sharing, ecological responsibility and diversity and inclusiveness, embedded within the local community. The project so far includes:

* Vegan and vegetarian kitchens in all flats
* Shared food orders with organic ethical wholesaler
* Green renewable energy with Bulb or Good Energy
* Our beautiful community garden
* Refugee Bike Hub

We wish to create a peaceful and creative space where those living here are lovingly engaged in nurturing the life of the house, inside and out; looking after the property and garden together and helping the community grow for the benefit of one another and our visitors. The vision for the running of the project and making of decisions is for monthly community meetings; spaces of listening and understanding where all are able to share their feelings and ideas in a calm and respectful atmosphere.

Quiet house - while we have the wish for the house being something of a hub for positive activity we also value it as a refuge and encourage those who wish to live in a house that, with the the exception of the occasional party, is quiet by 10pm to support good sleeping.

Diversity and inclusiveness - we welcome people to our community from every age, sexuality, religion, faith, gender, ethnicity. Our community attempts to create a safe space for all people living in the house or visiting for the garden and events. The house is strictly smoke and drug free with flats free to decide on relationship to alcohol (with mindfulness to its affect on the community).
