About the house – a spacious, 1960s maisonette with a garden – and pond – three minutes’ walk from Forest Gate and Wanstead Park stations. You’ll be sharing with me, the live-in landlord, and a small cat named Possum.
It’s a spacious home, with a large living room/dining room, and big kitchen with a big fridge-freezer. There’s a sunny garden with a pond.
The upstairs bathroom is fantastic and modern, with a bath, and there’s also a downstairs loo. It’s all double glazed and there’s a lot of cupboard space and an outdoors shed for bikes.
About the room – you’ll have a double bedroom with double bed and a large wardrobe overlooking the back garden. I’d hope to keep the wardrobe in there as it weighs an absolute ton and assembling it was possibly one of my greatest DIY achievements.
There’s a bonus room with a single bed which is a spare - good for the odd guest.
About me – I’m a journalist, I love to cycle, practice yoga and swing dance, go for country walks and visit exhibitions. While it's definitely not a party house, it's a chilled relaxed home, it's definitely a home, and am looking for someone to share that home and the odd cuppa, meal, etc. I also appreciate my own space, and respect others’ space, of course.
When I’m not out in the evenings and weekends I like to cook, listen to music, read or just cosy up and watch a film.
About the local area – Wanstead Flats are a short walk or cycle away, and perfect for lakeside picnics, woodland walks, and bike rides, and the wilds of Epping Forest are beyond that. Stratford is also just two train stops, or a short bike ride, away, with excellent connections into the city via the underground or Cycle Superhighway 2. There’s also Westfield shopping centre, of course, and the awesome Olympic Park, with its cycling, swimming and gym facilities and gorgeous open spaces.
There’s a real community feel in Forest Gate, the people are warm and friendly, and there’s plenty of shops on the main road, and a market on Saturdays selling yummy cheeses, ham, bread, craft things and second hand books.
I would love to share with someone who likes cats and, even better, doesn’t mind feeding Possum while I’m away from time to time. She was a stray I adopted and will always be a bit wild, but is a lot of fun to play with - if you’re into games involving string and crumpled paper.
