I’m moving in with family, so looking to find someone to take over my room in Highbury. Female applicants strongly preferred, please :) We’re looking for someone around 27-34.
The Room
The room itself is quite spacious -- at least by London standards! It has a large window covering nearly one whole wall, so it is very light. There is a bed with underbed storage, a bedside table, a set of drawers, and a very large wardrobe closet. I purchased the desk and two bookshelves, but there would be the option to buy those for cheap. The bedroom faces a private gated garden for residents only and is not street-facing, so it is relatively quiet.
The Flat
On the second floor of the building (with a lift), it is a 4 bed flat and the living room is decently large. It has a sunny balcony and overlooks the garden, which is the size of a small park. In the kitchen you’ll have your own dry cupboard as well as shelf in the fridge, so enough space and all the cooking utensils you could imagine! There is also a bike shed. Our landlord is very responsive and is a nice person.
The other flatmates are 2 girls (British) in their late 20s and one guy (NZ) in his mid-30s, who are all working. The group is friendly and always happy to have a chat in the kitchen or watch some TV, but everyone also has a busy schedule, so there is no pressure if you want to do your own thing. Overall it is a relaxed place to live! LGBTQ friendly too, of course.
The Area
Highbury/Islington is a lovely, safe area to live, there are lots of cafes, pubs, restaurants and green areas, all within walking distance from the flat. The street and surrounding streets are pretty with trees and lovely Victorian houses. We’re right amidst a bunch of parks, like Highbury Fields and Clissold Park. I’ll miss the neighbourhood a lot!
Transport
The transport connection is excellent! Arsenal station (Piccadilly) is 5 minutes away, Finsbury Park (Victoria line) about 15 minutes, and Highbury & Islington station also about 15-20 mins. There are also several bus lines within a 3-5 minute walk, which is great for any time of day but especially coming home late at night. Overall, I have never felt unsafe in this neighbourhood, especially when returning at odd hours.
Costs
The rent itself is £905. Adding all the bills together (council tax Band D, water, tv license, gas, electricity, internet), they usually come to about £114 on top. The deposit is the same as the rent aka £905.
If this sounds like the right fit for you, please get in touch with some information about you, i. e., age, what you do for a living, interests – thanks! The landlord will ask to see proof of income, etc., just to substantiate that you can afford the rent/living here.
Technically students could live here, but again you would need to be able to prove your finances for the foreseeable future.
There is potentially the possibility to start the contract/move in a few days earlier than July 11th, if everything gets sorted out in time and we can organise it on both sides! Happy to discuss :)
Cheers, Elyssa
