We are offering a double room in a large 1930s semi-detached house in a quiet residential road in Merton. It is very close to Morden Underground; a quick bus/tram ride away from Wimbledon Station and is 5 minutes walk away from a supermarket.
The bills are divided equally between the housemates and come to around £50-£60 each which includes utilities, broadband, tv licence and council tax. There is also a house kitty which is about £5 a month covering cleaning materials, toilet paper, lightbulbs and other shared costs.
This room is on the ground floor of the house with a large bright, West-facing bay window. It was originally a living room, but as we have a very large one already it has been a bedroom since we moved in. It has a gas fireplace, but to my knowledge, none of the housemates have used it. There is a large double bed at the moment and if needed there can be more furniture on request. The door has windows in it currently covered by a curtain, the landlord is happy to replace the door for a solid one on request.
The house has a large living room/dining room which is shared by everyone with a few sofas, a television, many books and DVDs, a small aquarium, a large dining table and far more chairs than strictly necessary.
The kitchen is fairly well equipped with gas hobs, one fan oven, two microwaves, a convection oven, a grill, dishwasher, two fridges, a freezer, a kettle, a high-tech Japanese rice cooker, a blender and a bread maker. The washing machine is also in the kitchen.
The garden is very large with planted beds either side of the lawn and a trellis separating the rockery area at the end of the garden. There is a small shed at the end of the garden housing garden tools and a large garage at the top of the garden by the house. This is mainly used for storage, but has power and lighting and has been used as a workshop. While notionally a car could be housed there, currently this isn't realistic. There is a patio which we use for barbecues, drying clothes and lounging around. This is where people go if they want to smoke as well.
The front garden is paved with a few rose bushes round the edges, mainly used for parking cars.
The housemates all work in various jobs. We enjoy watching films and having a few glasses of wine/whisky/beer/cocktails together in the evenings; tea and coffee in the mornings. Most of us enjoy cooking as well. We have two very good natured cats who share the house.
