Quirky homely flat in the heart of Shoreditch

Ad ref# 6084490

A couple of years ago I totally fell for this place, and I'm happy to be staying on and hoping to find a new housemate as my wonderful roomie moves on to new places! I’m keen to live with someone sociable, tidy, respectful but fun, who likes music and food enough to humour my enthusiasm for them.

The flat has lots of character and unique features. The landlords are wonderful, very responsive, and have done it up so it really feels like a lovely home. Bills come to around £110 a month including Council Tax, Water, Energy, Broadband and our lovely fortnightly cleaner called Alex.

We're right in the heart of it, with so many bars, restaurants and great coffee shops nearby that it's hard to resist being out a lot, but the location also means friends are usually happy to visit for cheaper nights in. We’re about 4mins walk to Old Street, 7mins to Hoxton Square, 10mins to Liverpool Street and Shoreditch High Street Stations, 20mins to Regents Canal on the Kingsland Road (via an amazing number of Vietnamese restaurants and funky bars) and 25mins walk to the river.

It has everything you need, including a sitting room with a lovely old dining table and chairs, comfy sofa and chaise lounge by the window. The windows are big it’s bright with lots of light too.
I have a piano, so if you play / don’t mind me occasionally playing that would be fab. To keep it lovely to hang out in, we tend to keep clutter in our rooms so the living room stays communal and welcoming.

I love cooking and it took a little while to adapt to the tiny kitchen, but now I actually find it easier as everything is within reach. There is no freezer or microwave, there simply isn't room, but it actually means the food we cook is much more fresh. Because it’s so small we often share things, and buy small not in bulk, if you’re happy doing that then it’s perfect for aspiring chefs. I have lots of kitchen things already, so not a problem if you don’t have much.

There's a little park (you can probs see in Google Maps if you search between Paul Street, Luke Street and Mark Street) that we consider our own garden, though during the day lots of office workers take it over for lunch. We also have a large bike storage courtyard between the blocks we're in, it's really secure for the cyclists reading this.

Your room is the smaller of the two, but very charming with a french style cupboard and chest of drawers plus some shelves. The bed is a bespoke design to fit the room adding more character, it’s not a full size double (weirdly has the corner cut off) but there have been tall people in there who’ve been comfy. Our landlords recently put a new mattress on it to make it more comfortable, and there’s storage beneath it.

I really want to live with someone who will consider the flat a home, a place to settle and relax, but also who's happy having friends round and joining in with my friends too. The location means it's often social, and friends do pop in, but quiet nights chilling on the sofa with a big bowl of noodles / tea / hot chocolate / red wine / gin are regular occurrences too.

I work locally in a tech startup (if you want a nose it’s Cocoon smart home security) but have been in the area and very much involved in that community for about 7 years. I sometimes work from home, usually with a teapot close at hand, but also travel a bit with work. I’m often pretty busy so like coming home to a tidy flat and being able to hang out with a friendly housemate / pal. I like the flat being a welcoming place, it only feels like home if you’re friends are welcome to come round, so it’s cool to have people over (I do) but bear in mind the flat is a little small for big blow out parties (though at New Years Eve we had something resembling that!)

Oh, and the door knocker is a squirrel! :-)
