Double bedroom in a first floor flat for mature post-grad student in beautiful Marchmont.

The room has a double bed (mattress a year old), small wardrobe, bedside table, desk and chair, bookshelf and easy chair. The room overlooks the shared back green, mews houses and the beautiful Warrander Baths which is finally open again after a major refurb.

We are a mother (PhD researcher and creative writing facilitator, experimental printer, human library book) and son (musician/student) who are into music and cooking. We value diversity and inclusivity and the flat is our safe space. We hope it is yours too. I work from home, sometimes at the library and enjoy walking and the occasional sweary dip in the North Sea. I have another son in his 20s embarking on his career elsewhere, but hopefully he will visit at some point.

You are a mature, full time, post graduate (masters or PhD) student at one of the universities in Edinburgh and not have much in the way of kitchen stuff. I lived five years in South East Asia and adore the cultures of the region, so bonus points if you are from Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia or Malaysia and love cooking!

Bills will be shared according to the month but rent does include stair cleaning, garden maintenance and TV licence fee.
You will be council tax exempt too :-)

We are in Marchmont, close to 3 main bus routes (5, 24, 9) and amazing local shops: McLeods for European groceries, Cork & Cask for amazing wine and beer, Eddie's and Sheila's for fresh fish, veggie shop, hardware store, bookshop, two chippies, literally doors down from delicious Wokness takeaway and two pubs 7 min walk. We are close enough to town to walk in via the Meadows or down Lothian Road and are walking distance to several cinemas and theatres, plus a whole world of food.

The flat, being old (1903) is a work in progress and hopefully I will have the painting done by September. It is super cosy in winter and cool enough in summer.

10-15 min walk to George Sq. Same to Napier campus. Bus ride to Kings Buildings.

On-street permit parking. Morningside 15 mins walk (Waitrose, M&S, lots of independent eateries and shops). Newington the same, the other way (amazing Asian supermarkets and eateries).

Fitness wise, The Commie Pool is 15+ minutes walk, quicker by bike or the number 5 bus.

You will have shared use of kitchen (all the culinary toys plus dishwasher and washing machine, note that we cook with pork and nuts if you have food needs) and bathroom (shower over bath, window).

We love cooking and suppers but no parties. Weather permitting, bbqs can be had in the shared back green; we keep a garden table and bbq stuff. We've lived here over 10 years and welcomed lodgers before.

I understand that being a lodger isn't for everyone but we offer a safe space, particularly for LGBTQI++ people (like me!), and genial companionship. There may or may not be a rescue dog in the future.
