Single & Double Houseshare In Cottage Bungalow

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE ADVERT BEFORE REPLYING. I’m looking for a lodger to house-share and I’m offering 1 single room with en suite shower and separate toilet. Minimum period three months, extendable monthly by rolling contract. VIEWING/AVAILABLE from Monday 22nd March 2021.

Covid-19 Pandemic. Since last March none of my previous lodgers showed any symptoms or were tested C-19 positive. I myself have never had any symptoms and last tested negative on 25th January: I had my first Covid-19 vaccination on 2nd March. However, I am now fairly vulnerable and immobile, moving around the house on crutches due to an injury, so I am looking for someone who is prepared to follow the washing hands, social distancing and wearing masks in the house for the first fortnight living here. I too, will wear a mask, wash hands frequently and keep my distance.

THE HOUSE (during normal times)
Modernised and extended late 17th century single-storey cottage in a conservation area at the quieter end of Front Street. At the other end there is a vibrant shopping area and between the two is Morrisons supermarket. Monthly street market. Lovely library, post office, full health facilities and good sports facilities nearby. Only 5 minutes by car into central York; 10 minutes by bike (flat almost all the way). There are plenty of buses into York and surrounding areas: it's 20 minutes or less to York Railway Station, 30 minutes to York Hospital. It is possible for able-bodied people to walk into the centre of York.

SINGLE ROOM £350pcm single occupancy
Narrow, but long with high ceiling, so not at all claustrophobic. En suite power shower, single bed, bookshelves and deep, fitted cupboard with 3 shelves/wardrobe with 1 shelf. Chest of drawers, foldaway table etc. Cloakroom with toilet, vanity basin and mirrored cabinet just outside the room. These two rooms can be shut off from the rest of the house for privacy. Would suit person with not too much clutter.

RENTAL
INCLUDES nearly everything: Council tax and utilities bills; cable TV with TiVo Box and Wi-fi broadband; laundry and cleaning materials. Bedding and towels will be supplied. EXCLUDES food and personal care items; landline calls and On Demand TV.

REST OF HOUSE
Beamed central "snug" living room with rooms leading off. Large conservatory-dining room with lots of natural light for arts, crafts and photography. Fitted kitchen has NEFF 5-ring gas hob and new electric oven. Utility outhouse with Miele washing machine. Mature garden with patio and barbecue area, leading to hard standing with vehicular access.

VEHICLES
Hard standing behind a secure high fence. Room in a garage for 1 or 2 bicycles.

MYSELF
I'm a mature writer with BA in Viking Studies. I have too many interests to list here! Cleanliness and hygiene is ESSENTIAL in kitchen and bathrooms, but tidiness stunts artistic creativity, so I’d prefer to share with people who aren’t obsessively tidy.

I’m friendly and fairly laid-back and enjoy a chat most days, but quiet and highly regard my own and others’ privacy. I welcome good, well-behaved people of all cultures. I understand Spanish, also a little French and Norwegian. I welcome those with special diets, I myself am wheat-intolerant. I enjoy good music: as the three bedrooms are at the points of a triangle music practice won’t disturb others.

YOU
This is a family home, not a hostel and I will treat you as part of the family as much as possible. You would be responsible for regular cleaning of own rooms. You will also help clean common areas (I have carers who help with my cleaning obligations twice a week). We aim to be friendly, greet each other when we meet, enjoy occasional meals/takeaways together and most importantly, have a good sense of humour. Please be prepared to follow House rules! Sorry, no smoking of any kind (I am unbending on this). I’m happy with occasional consumption of light alcohol but I can’t abide drunkenness. Very sorry, no pets or children.
