“Live Rent Free” - your questions answered
We've been running our Live Rent Free prize draw for 14 years. Whether you're a committed entrant, a newcomer, or this is the first you've heard of it (where have you been?!), we've got all the details below to explain everything you need to know.
What is “Live Rent Free”?
"Live Rent Free" is a monthly prize draw where SpareRoom will pay your rent for one month.
What can I win?
One month's rent, based on the average rent (including bills) in your postcode, as calculated by SpareRoom.
How much can I win?
The prize money is calculated based on the average monthly rent for a room in your postcode, inclusive of bills (based on SpareRoom data). This remains the same, regardless of whether you rent a room or a whole property. It is also unaffected by how many people you live with and/or share rent with.
When does the prize draw run?
The prize draw runs from the 1st of each month, until midday on the last day of each month.
How often can I enter?
You must re-enter here every month for a chance to win. Even if you entered last month's LRF prize draw, you will not be automatically enrolled this month. There are 12 chances to win each year.
How can I boost my chances of winning?
We regularly post extra entry codes on our social channels. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to make sure you don't miss out. You also get extra 'loyalty entries' if you enter regularly.
How do I know if I've won?
Winners are notified by email and must respond within 7 days to claim their prize. If you do not respond within 7 days, a new winner will be selected.
Does anyone actually win?
We announce winners on Facebook and Instagram before the end of each month. The full list of previous winners can be seen here.
Why enter?
Well, because you can Live Rent Free for a month, of course! But also, because we match every prize with a donation to Crisis to help combat homelessness.
Can I enter the prize draw if I'm not currently renting?
No, you must be renting at the time you enter the prize draw. If your circumstances have changed by the time you are contacted as a winner, you'll need to provide proof that you were renting during the period the prize draw was live in order to claim the prize.
Can I enter if I don't flatshare?
Yes. The prize draw is open to all renters.
Do I need to be actively advertising or searching for a room on SpareRoom to enter?
No.
Do I need to have found my current home through SpareRoom to be eligible?
No, you can enter regardless of where you found your property.
