Renting out a spare room - Robert's story

Robert shares his experience of renting out a room in his home in Manchester.

Robert Wilkinson, a 37 year old accountant, owns a three-bed house in Manchester. He’s been renting out a room since just after he bought the house a couple of years ago.

Robert says,“I like having the company. The extra income is useful for helping me maintain my lifestyle, too”.

Robert charges £450 a month, which includes a share of all bills and council tax. He’s always used SpareRoom to find his lodgers, and is keen to recommend the service.

“Using SpareRoom to advertise meant I didn’t feel rushed into taking the first person who came along - I could take my time to choose the right lodger.”
