Professional Geoscientist in need of Room

My job requires that I am away in the field quite a bit. A few weeks here and there followed by time in the office/home. This means I'm in need of a quiet comfortable place to base myself out of, between Swansea and Cardiff. Somewhere along the M4 corridor or close to rail stations would be preferable. I'm a geophysicist and an outdoor lover. So I might have dirt in my shoes, but I'm very respectful of other people's homes/space. I am a smoker who is trying to quit. I don't like smoking indoors and would never light up in someone else's home. I try not to let my habit intrude on others.

As much as I'd like to be able to only rent when needed, it would just add to many more headaches each month. So I'd like to find a place I could occupy for about a year. I will be away ~50% of the time. I'm an ex-pat American (don't hold it against me), Honorary Welshman (as far as my mates say) and just a guy trying to live frugally for a short period of time so I can move up in the world afterwards. If you need professional/character refs or something I'd be more than happy to send some along. Cheers
