About Two Generations CIC and Intergenerational Homesharing

Two Generations CIC match older/vulnerable people with a spare room, with younger people who can offer companionship and physical help (such as laundry and food shopping) in exchange for much cheaper accommodation. The pair can live together and develop friendships.

We are a social enterprise aiming to relieve people from loneliness, help older and vulnerable people to remain independent, and mitigate the expensive rental market for younger people through intergenerational homesharing. What is intergenerational homesharing?

In a home share, a younger person lives in the spare room in the home of an older or vulnerable person and offers friendship and practical support around the house.

There is no rent. Instead, the pair pay small monthly support fees to Two Generations, who are just a phone call away throughout the homesharing arrangement. It is a win-win situation, the older person receives support and companionship. The young person also enjoys an affordable home and friendship.

We operate nationally

Two Generations operate on a national basis, from the South Coast to Scotland and everywhere in between.

We receive direct enquiries or referrals for both householders and homesharers through connections with social prescribers, befriending charities, and other channels. We also partner with charities and organisations such as together in Brighton to reach out to as many people in need as possible.

We advertise on various platforms including Spareroom to look for eligible homesharers. Using our award-winning matching technology, we help the householder to find the best match - this includes compatibility in location, needs, habits, and interests.

What do our users say?

Hear feedback from some recent home sharers:

I came to Two Generations looking forward to Homeshare in order to find a family in the UK. And that is exactly what I found. I highly recommend homesharing
Being a homesharer has been one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve had the privilege to have. Not only has it allowed me to study freely, taking away worries of rent and living costs, but it has provided me a dear friend that I enjoy spending time with. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who is looking for a beautiful life experience.

The standard homesharing arrangement includes 10-hour assistance in the home per week. But might increase or decrease on a case-by-case basis.

The activities will be agreed up-front with the householder and included in the contract. We try to make sure it’s as clear as possible, for example, how often the householder and homesharer will meet for dinner, or when to do food shopping, so the expectation is clear for both of you.

We look for homesharers who are 21 years old and above and are prepared to homeshare for 12 months or more. This provides further reassurance to the older householder, in particular, many of them will be sharing a home with someone outside of their family members for the first time.

Two Generations are always around for a discussion from the enquiry stage to the termination of the homeshare arrangement.
