Android Developer (Manchester)

Role Description

SpareRoom are looking for an experienced Android Developer to join our apps team. We have apps in the UK & US markets and we are currently undertaking a complete refresh of these to fully embrace Google’s Material Design. The role will include technical strategy and implementation as part of the wider apps team and you will work closely with our API, Web and UX teams. We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for the Android ecosystem and a desire to create an intuitive, low friction app that helps people find their perfect home or housemate easily.


  • Develop & debug the app using Kotlin and Java
  • Integrate Firebase services and Analytics platforms
  • Improve app performance and efficiency:
    • Response time enhancements
    • Performance when fetching remote resources
    • Conversion enhancements, in collaboration with the UX team
    • Battery consumption
    • Image & video manipulation
    • Behaviour customisation based on preference management
    • Profiling the app’s memory, network & CPU usage
    • Staged rollouts of different product builds
    • Code obfuscation and secure API interaction
  • Integration with RESTful and bespoke APIs
  • Developing features to industry best practices, including Material Design
  • Embedding a test lead approach to development for code and UI changes

CRM Manager / Retention Manager (London)

SpareRoom has an exciting opportunity for a CRM Manager which reports to the CMO joining our growing team. This is a new role within the company and you will be responsible for developing the Customer Relationship Management framework and strategy for both UK and US markets. This will involve working with the CMO to help implement the ESP Iterable and building out a contact strategy from scratch.

The Role:
  • This is a hands-on role that includes tactical and strategic planning and implementation of a contact strategy for SpareRoom.
  • Managing the planning, development and execution of all email campaigns including reporting.
  • Create and deliver campaigns which are relevant, compelling and timely, that tie in with our creative and sales propositions and remain aligned to our brand guidelines
  • Measuring the results of email marketing campaigns and wider plans as well as altering and adjusting campaigns according to results.
  • Developing and organising content for campaigns.
  • Working in collaboration with the rest of the Marketing team and engaging them with the CRM strategy
  • Working closely with the CMO and Data Team to spec out further customer segmentation criteria
  • Branch out CRM from just email to in-app push messaging

Freelance PR Consultant (New York)

Who we're looking for
  • New York based freelancer with experience working in New York PR agencies on consumer lifestyle accounts
  • Someone who has worked in Consumer lifestyle PR (especially for a service) for at least 4-5 years
  • With experience in a larger agency but stints in a smaller, more creative agency is a positive
  • With experience working on lifestyle accounts (ideally with key audience being young professionals in 20s / early 30s living in cities)
  • With a demonstrable network of consumer lifestyle press contacts in New York
  • Demonstrable network of influencer contacts in New York
  • With a strong track record of turning an idea into a story that will be picked up by consumer lifestyle press with a large NYC audience in their 20s / early 30s
  • Who has strong writing skills & media awareness
  • With the ability to think creatively about renting & roommates in New York, making our brand relevant to key consumer lifestyle press
  • Who has experience working with data-centric PR stories
Key responsibilities
  • Self starter who is able to think on their feet, feels confident advising on media landscape and can generate strong creative press office / campaign ideas
  • Work with Comms team in UK/US to create, develop & execute New York PR stories that will be picked up by consumer lifestyle press - meeting KPIs and timelines
  • Have knowledge of New York/US media and confidence to advise on what will hit PR goals
  • Meet key media along with New York based marketing team
  • Ability to work in the New York office with US marketing team from time to time
  • Main point of contact will be the UK comms team. However, we’re looking for someone who is able to support US marketing manager with press enquiries out of UK office hours

Performance Marketing Executive (London)

SpareRoom has an exciting opportunity for a performance marketing executive which reports to the Performance Marketing Manager to join our growing team. You will be responsible for working with the Performance Marketing Manager to help develop and implement a Paid Search framework and strategy for both UK and US markets. This is an ideal role for someone with some experience of paid search who would like to expand their knowledge and gain experience managing paid search accounts across countries with annual spends of over £1m.

The Role:
  • This is a hands-on role where you will be working within AdWords and AdWords editor to create, structure, and optimise paid search campaigns in order to achieve KPIs.
  • You will also be responsible for implementing and optimising paid social campaigns using Facebook Ads Manager
  • You will also be responsible for implementing and optimising app marketing campaigns
  • You will be tasked with frequent reporting on campaign performance
  • You will work with the Performance Marketing Manager and the CMO to devise and test new performance marketing strategies
Skills and experience:
  • The ideal candidate should have experience managing paid search campaigns
  • Hands-on approach with very strong attention to detail
  • Organised with very clear communication
  • Excellent written English
  • Analytical and with a good grounding in maths
  • Excellent Excel skills

Performance Marketing Manager (London)

SpareRoom has an exciting opportunity for a Performance Marketing Manager which reports to the CMO to join our growing team. This is a new role within the company and you will be responsible for developing, growing and optimising a Paid Search framework and strategy for both UK and US markets.

The Role:
  • This is a hands-on role demanding creation and implementation of paid search and paid social media strategies in line with business goals
  • Monitoring, analysing and managing paid social activity
  • Strong commercial understanding
  • Understanding of online customer behaviour
  • You will directly manage paid search, display and remarketing campaigns, ensuring that budgets are being spent in the best possible way and that they’re seeing ROI
  • You will get hands-on with accounts to build campaigns, manage budgets, tweak ads, find what’s working and not working and ensure the account stays in good health
  • Suggest and implement optimisation improvements.
Skills and experience:
  • The ideal candidate should have proven experience in a similar role
  • Hands-on approach with strong attention to detail
  • Organised with very clear communication
  • Creative and analytical
  • Very strong knowledge of the PPC industry, with detailed knowledge of AdWords, Bing and Programmatic tools.
