Intentional Community in Cambridge

Ad ref# 14811949

We are looking for two special individuals to join our intentional community in Cambridge.

Communal living draws upon the kinship bonds of a family or a small tribe that have always been fundamental to our lives as social animals. It is a form of resistance to and emancipation from the capitalist system, which urges competition and breeds emotionally repressed automatons.

We encourage and celebrate diversity of age, ethnicity, gender, ability, culture, faith and so on. That said, it is important that we share a common vision of life in community. We want to create an alternative, safer space in which we can flourish individually and support one another collectively. We want to create a healthy and caring environment in which we can allow ourselves to be vulnerable – to laugh and cry, to sing and stay silent, to share our fears and dreams. We want to connect with each other with open hearts and minds, whilst being conscious of people’s boundaries and insecurities. Such an environment is not one in which we never get triggered, but an ecosystem of understanding and lovingkindness wherein we can feel accepted and cherished as we are.

The collective will be composed of 7 people. We need not be like-minded in all matters, but we should all be aware of social inequalities and of our ecological footprint. We should also seek to deconstruct habitual patterns of behaviour and, most important of all, share a will to learn from one another as individuals and to thrive as a community.

As individuals, we strive:
- To honour and freely express our boundaries, needs, and desires
- To take care of other people’s psychosomatic integrity
- To cultivate a culture of care and consent
- To feel empowered to show our feelings and emotions whist taking charge of them
- To strive to communicate and welcome conflict in a considerate, open, and authentic way through such practices as active listening, radical honesty, and non-violent communication.

The space will be:
- Non-hierarchical
- Queer/feminist
- Mostly vegan
- Mostly sober
- Naked-friendly.

As a community:
- Family assemblies and meetings – moments during which we all sit down together, check in with each other, and discuss organizational matters, housekeeping, and event planning (twice a month + weekly open sharing).
- Other collective activities may include: cooking for everybody once a week; sharing meals; dumpster diving; purchasing food in bulk together; sharing knowledge and skills; meditation; circling; organizing or hosting workshops and events (e. g. music jams, life drawing). It all depends on people’s wishes and creativity.

Do contact us if you are interested in being part of our intentional community (move-in date October 2020).

Serious and motivated candidates only.
