Hello!
I have a single room available for rent in a first floor flat located in the centre of Cambridge. The flat is on Castle Street opposite the Shire hall which is very convenient for access to the city centre and the science park. It takes me roughly 15 minutes to cycle to the science park and itâs no more than a 10 minute walk to the market square which is where I consider the centre of town. The route into town is possibly one of the nicest in Cambridge and very close to all of the colleges, Jesus Green/Midsummer Common. Thereâs a bus stop which serves the busway B route about 5 metres from the door which I sometimes use to catch the bus to the science park or even back home to Peterborough.
The room includes a bed and wardrobe. Itâs a bright and airy room with views over the Shire Hall building and castle hill (this can be quite nice to look out of on a Saturday afternoon as many weddings take place at the registry office opposite!).
Itâs a really lovely flat which is well looked after however as illustrated in the photographs itâs very small! This does have its benefits though as up keeping of the place is very easy and itâs nice and warm in winter unlike some of the older, Victorian style houses in Cambridge! I have lived here for 2 years now and really donât want to leave as itâs so difficult to find a place which is so central and affordable in Cambridge. The kitchen has a fridge with a freezer box, a washing machine and an oven with 4 gas hobs. The boiler is a combi so thereâs hot water whenever required (no need to worry about having no hot water left or waiting 20 minutes before it will be pleasant enough to take a shower). Thereâs also a dishwasher but as we usually wash the dishes/pots and pans after weâve used them weâve never actually used this.
The price is for the room only so doesnât include utility bills. The monthly share of bills is roughly £60 for council tax, £12. 50 for internet, ~£10 for water (the water bill comes in every six months and usually works out around £75 each), and gas and electric vary due to seasonal usage but will be no more than £40 for both (the share is currently £7. 50 for electric and £11 for gas but as winter is approaching Iâm sure that will increase!) There is a TV in the living room with a smart DVD player which allows access to BBC/4oD/Netflix/Amazon Prime (basically on-demand services) but if youâd really like to watch live TV I have no problems in sharing the cost of a TV license.
There is no garden but there is a little courtyard outside which has been used in the past to sit out and BBQ on a summerâs evening. There is a shed to store bikes but unfortunately there is no parking space.
Iâm looking for someone who will keep the place tidy (we havenât just cleaned and tidied for the photographs, the flat genuinely is kept in the state seen in the photographs at all times). Ideally Iâd like someone who will stay long term but I donât mind signing a 6-month contract to begin with. Professionals are preferable but PhD students are welcome too. The deposit is £825 (I know this is a little more than 1. 5X the monthly rent but the deposit for the flat was £1650). Youâll also have to pay fees to the estate agent so they can carry out referencing (I believe this costs around £125) and to sign the contract (around £137. 50).
Now, a little about myself. Iâm currently working in research for a pharmaceutical company on the science park. I am contracted there until at least March 2017 so if you are looking for something long term too you wonât have to worry about me leaving any time soon. Iâm a really laid back, easy going person (Iâm not just saying this, I really am). Iâm very sociable (I wonât spend my entire time in my room) and after a long day at work Iâm usually found crashed on one of the sofas playing on my iPad or watching something totally pointless on demand. I love cooking something different at the weekend, watching films/TV series, going for coffee or trips to any of the many lovely pubs in town. Iâm really into running (although recently Iâve become a bit addicted to boot campsâ¦!). I like to play guitar (you may have noticed the guitar in the living room but donât worry, I use headphones so you wonât hear a thing). Iâm also a huge sports fan who loves football.
Available from the 24th of December but flexible with move in dates between 24th of December and 1st of February 2015. If you're interested, drop me a line with a bit about yourself and we can arrange a viewing.
Thanks for looking!
