A unique house 10 minutes' drive from Darlington, 20 minutes' drive from Richmond, and half an hour's drive from Northallerton, in a 17th Century building that was converted from a watermill into a house in the 1980s. There's a large garden with a pond and greenhouse, and lots of space for parking (I've had five cars on the driveway at a party without them getting in one another's way) with a couple of patios perfect for breakfast/barbecues etc. There is no garage, but a large barn which is good for storing things (but doesn't have a large enough entrance for a car). I have one cat at the moment, would consider housemates with other pets.

There is a large shared living room, a kitchen, and a dining room, as well as a conservatory, spare room (which I'm also using a study, but with a double bed for if any of us want to have mates over to stay), utility room, and a second living room downstairs, which I'm setting up as a games room.

I'm a queer secondary English teacher who's just moved up from Bradford. I am filling the house with loads and loads of books. I'm pretty chatty and social and quite like having friends over for board games, food, and general breeze-shooting (yep, my parties have got far less wild than they were ten years ago when I was at school). I tend to want to demarcate things a lot - there are times that people want to be social, and times that people want to have time to decompress on their own, so I'm pretty solid at respecting that. I like chatting about TV, politics, and all sorts of nonsense, and enjoy being disagreed with, but I'm not very tolerant of people being disrespectful or prejudiced in their behaviour towards other people around them. I'm vegetarian, halfway to vegan, but have no problem with other people cooking and eating meat. My room is down at one end of the house with its own bathroom, so I'll tend to be out of your way in the mornings (except in the kitchen).

I'd prefer people who were flatmates for the medium to long term - if you were going to be wanting a room for only a few weeks it would probably be higher charge.

Would suit grads at Durham or Teesside wanting to live out of town, young professionals, junior doctors on rotation, trainee teachers, trainee vets, etc.

10-15 minutes drive to Darlington station, 30 minutes by bus, or 30 minutes drive. About 15 minutes drive from the A1.

All bills included.

Apologies for the boxes in the pictures: I'll put up better ones once the furniture's all unpacked.
