Flatmates

- 30 year old gay man, British, laboratory manager (he/him)
I’ve lived in the flat for about a year and a half now. I’m a Laboratory Manager by trade, and the old man in the flat (at 30yo). In my spare time I like going out to any queer event or night out I can get to. I also go to a lot of festivals and gigs, in addition to exhibitions, and walks/hikes. I’ve gotten into oil painting in the last few years and consider myself to be creative, whilst being a scientist. Ideally, we’re looking for someone clean and considerate to share the space with, but if they’re fun then hanging out would be grand too.

- 26 year-old straight woman, Japanese, barista/trainee psychologist (she/her)
Hello 🙂
I’m originally from Japan but I grew up in France so I can speak French too.
I’m a trainee psychologist (part-time) and barista at a French cafe in South Kensington (full-time). I’m barely in the flat during the day as I’m at cafe but during the day off I use the living room as my desk, when no one is using the living room!
I like watching sport, doing some fitness exercises, musical theatre and baking 🙂 I’m pretty busy doing different things but try my best to keep the shared part of the house clean and be respectful to flatmates 🙂 but I like having chat in the kitchen, corridor about life, interest or even going for a walk and coffee as friend too 😃

- 25 year old gay man, French, journalist (he/him)
Hi, I’m a video journalist working for a newsroom in East London. I cycle to the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and work from home the rest of the week. For that reason, I expect a fairly quiet flat during the day. I sometimes work late shifts from home too. I’m into documentaries, video news production, photography and contemporary art. I started running more or less seriously last November and I’m often going on walks in the park whenever I can. I also enjoy hiking at the weekend. I often joke that I have the lifestyle of a grandpa since I like going to bed early to go for runs before work. I don’t really drink, I’m not a fan of clubs, but I love seeing my friends for lunch/dinner or grabbing a hot drink on a long walk.

- Albie and Frankie (brothers), 1, tuxedo cats
Albie and Frankie are adorable and very loving young cats. They play together a lot, run after each other, and sleep loads too. Albie is the most independent of the two and can be a bit stressed by loud noises/strangers but warms up to anyone after a while. Frankie is very much the opposite, he’ll run towards any danger but he’s also the most cuddly of the two. More about the cats in the cats section below.
Everyone in the flat lives a slightly different lifestyle, so we don’t spend a lot of time together. We’ll often have a very quick chat if we see each other in the morning and a longer conversation while cooking our separate meals in the evening for example.

The room
- Comes furnished with a single bed (bed sheets not included), chest of drawers (some drawers are a bit stiff/hard to open and close), and a wardrobe
- It’s located between the living room and the kitchen
- The window faces a big tree, which gets quite leafy in the spring/summer
- There is not enough room to fit a desk

Location/Transport
- SW115DL
- Battersea Park: 7 min walk
- Clapham Junction: 25 min walk/15 min bus
- Battersea Power Station: 22 min walk/16 min bus
- Possibility to rent a bike storage locker just outside the building

Housekeeping
- Cleaning: We have a rota system, each flatmate has to clean one area of the flat per week (kitchen, bathroom, living room/toilet, floors). We’re pretty strict about this since the flat can get dirty quite quickly with four people living in it.
- Bills: All flatmates pay an equal share on the first day of each month by bank transfer.
- No parties or loud music (the building management is very strict)
- No smoking under any circumstances (allergies)
- You’re welcome to have people stay over for short periods of time if you check in with us prior to their arrival.

Cats
- The cats are owned by one of the flatmates, who assumes all costs/responsibilities associated with them.
- It’s fine for them to come in your room if you’re in it to supervise them, otherwise we strongly recommend keeping your door shut if you don’t want them to damage anything (we’ve had a couple of broken glasses for example).
- Keep dangerous products away from the cats (any type of medication or cleaning products for example)

Accessibility
- There are about 20 steps to get to the flat on the first floor, no lift.
- The flat is entirely on the same floor.
- There is an intercom system.

Tenancy/Rent
- The will ask for proof of right to rent, proof of income, contact details of your previous landlord. He has rejected people on benefits in the past.
- To reserve the flat, you’ll need to transfer the deposit (one month’s rent) to the landlord and pay the remainder of April rent to the previous tenant if you move in before the 1st May
May’s rent will be due on your move-in date

Bills
- To give you a rough idea, bills went up to £140 per month per person at the peak of winter (using dehumidifiers and individual electric heaters) and went as low as £60 per month during the summer months. This is just to give you an estimate. By moving in, you become liable for your share of the bills.
- Bills include energy, water, Wi-Fi, TV licence, council tax, toilet rolls and cleaning supplies.
