This is a large, quiet, south-facing room in a two-story garden townhouse located in Dalston (Hackney). Your room is on the first floor and has all the things you need: a double bed, a large closet, desk & office chair, armchair, book shelves, mirrors and lamps. You have your own bathroom with a shower, which is just down the hallway.

The house is in the middle of a vibrant and diverse urban area with a daily fruit market, lots of nightlife, restaurants, jazz clubs, flea markets/thrift stores, and good public transport connection to Central via two Overground stations (Dalston Kingsland or Dalston Junction). While all that happens nearby, we are in a very quiet residential street with a bucolic large garden in the back, which makes it the best of both worlds. There is a large patio with deck chairs and a table, a garden swing, a vegetable patch and a lawn. We've also got foxes, which are fun to watch. The whole house is also full of plants and art.

You are sharing the house with two professional academics (f), and at times with my partner from France when he visits. A bit about me: I am an Assistant Professor in medical anthropology at King's College London. I am queer, kind, and I enjoy conversations with the people I share a house with while also expecting and respecting privacy. Originally, I am from east Germany but I have lived 15 years in Canada, and shorter periods in South Africa and the US (NYC, Chapel Hill). I love theatre, reading, yoga, cooking, cycling, and gardening. A few things I am not so good with in the house: incense or scented candles, and extended periods of noise (e. g. loud music/background TV in shared areas).

About you: This is definitely a grown-up, friendly and generous home. Ideally you'd be considerate, interesting, and able to contribute to a nice home environment for all. Self-awareness, anti-racism, and good communication are important to us, and we like to keep the house tidy and cozy. There are lovely neighbours on all sides, too.
