Cosy double room in Oval apartment

Ad ref# 12344101

Hi everyone. I'm looking for someone to share my home - a cosy two bedroom flat with beautiful vintage furnishings, and light filled spaces which I rent from a great landlord. The room is offered for a 6 month let at present, available now. I've now lived here over 5 years. Rent is £675 and bills are in total £111.66 per month (incl. broadband, water, electricity/gas, council tax and TV license). We are currently reviewing the water meter so total may be ultimately be slightly less than this :)

At this strange point in a strange pandemic, I'm doing zoom chats to meet each other, and very happy to show you round the flat initially on zoom, before in-person meeting at the flat.

Your room: carpeted, double bed, built-ins with lovely white curtain facade, facing into the courtyard. The house is really well insulated in winter but the window in your room also allows a lovely fresh breeze in the summer and good light. It is not a huge room, but my flatmate has managed to fit a desk and chair in it as well in order to work.

The flat itself has a bright kitchen/dining overlooking the Oval cricket ground (we're on the top floor - NB 5 flights of steps will keep you fit!), a cosy lounge room (includes a growing 'wall of women artists' postcards on one wall :) ), and a bathroom with spacious bath and good shower, separate toilet.

The building is a very peaceful and well-maintained 1930s mansion block with friendly neighbours and a gorgeous, plant filled central courtyard and bbq area.

Transport links are fantastic, you can get to the City/West End in under half an hour - Northern (6 minutes away from Oval station, 10 mins from Kennington station) and Victoria (12 mins away from Vauxhall) lines both within a short walk. Buses esp. to Camberwell/Peckham/southeast London and towards the city also abound. Santander bikes and a bike hanger if you have your own also a minute away, with an excellent cycle highway all the way into the city.

Kennington's a really great place to live with a real community vibe - which for me has been so important these last few months. The park is a stone's throw away (tree filled, with basketball and tennis courts, and the 'Collective' cafe with pizza oven/homemade cakes, whose owners I know well and are absolutely committed to the community). We have the best Sunday farmer's market opposite Oval station and there's lots of places selling nice coffee and excellent, affordable brunch on Sundays. It's also a very LGBTQI friendly area.

Me: I'm 35, very sociable, open minded, down to earth, and give a lot to my friendships and my work so tend to be quite busy but I also really value having a little sanctuary to retreat to each day.

I am a yoga teacher part-time and I work as charity receptionist part time - my background is in human rights law/social justice work. I LOVE art, sociology, poetry, wine, croissants and cooking. At the moment (in Covid times), I'm home some mornings and afternoons (I'm still going into the office and teaching in studios) but I often use the time home to get out locally or am beavering away at a yoga sequence or emails so if that's you too, I'm sure we can co-exist! I do have to teach yoga online in the lounge a few classes a week, but my current flatmate Emma and I have not so far felt restricted by the others' work. We discuss everything openly, what we need and don't need, and how we can balance those. I'll be happy to do that with you too! My boyfriend comes over about once a week but we're always very mindful not to take over the space, and he's luckily very friendly and sociable :)

My flatmate and I quite easily have kept the common space nice as it's not huge (not necessarily pristine, just clean/tidy/good vibes) :) and we both just do bigger cleans for the house as and when they need doing and we are able.

Whether we spend much time with each other or not, I would love to find someone who's equally looking for a real home and values what connection we do have over coffee, tea, wine, the couch, local outings, the balcony.

Anything else you'd like to know about me or the flat, please do get in touch.
