Double room available in cosy friendly home

Ad ref# 15608854

Hi! We’re Anja (32) and Olivia (29), two PhD students living in a gorgeous little house in Peckham. Our housemate is sadly moving for work, so we’re looking for someone to move in any time in July, August, or early September.

The House
The house is a 1970s mid-terrace two-storey, high-spec with all the bedrooms on the top floor. The windows are double-glazed (so it’s warm!) and our energy bills are usually very low - the heating is already included in the rent and we don’t use gas.

The bathroom is recently renovated to a high standard with a rain head. Kitchen also decent spec with electric hob, a big fridge, and a washer/dryer. The house has plenty of storage space in the form of in-built cupboards and a (dry!) shed outside. The living/dining room has a wall-mounted television and huge, very comfy corner sofa, desk, dining table, and a well-stocked bar.

A definite highlight of the house is our terrace garden - we have put quite a bit of work into making it nice for summer. It sports a BBQ, a beer table, an egg chair, a flowering jasmine, fairy lights...the list goes on. We love showing it off to people at garden parties when it gets warm.

The Room
The room is a small double with wardrobe storage. It gets plenty of light, and has lots of room to store things under the bed, in two small drawers, a wardrobe, and in front of the room in the hallway. Mattress is super comfortable. The desk downstairs comes with the room and there’s also an extra wardrobe in Anja’s room for overflow clothing. It’s probably best suited for somebody who works at a workplace and rarely from home. We would also consider someone looking for Monday-Friday or as a regular, comfortable, and private place to stay when commuting into London.

About Us
We’re PhD students in German and History, we’re super social and love spending time together and with our flatmate. Evenings are often spent either out for dinner and a drink with a friend or cooking and having dinner together. We like sharing the house with friends for dinner parties, but also appreciate a quiet night with a book. Despite our love of a good social, we are grown-ups who enjoy living like grown-ups, so taking good care of the house/garden and keeping it tidy is important to us.

Anja is in her final year of her PhD; she also sings in several choirs, loves food and likes to write; Olivia is in her second year and she cycles everywhere, does pottery, reads a lot, and loves a good drama series.

Who we’re looking for
As mentioned above, the room is probably best for somebody who doesn’t work from home (for examples lab technicians, artists, nurses, or masters/PhD students), though there is a desk in the living room which goes with the room. It may also be possible to have somebody who is commuting into work in London for part of the week. When you are home though we’d very much like to get to know you and make sure it’s a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere enjoying the communal areas together. Ideally you’ll be tidy, friendly, relatively eco-conscious, and open to joining in communal dinners on occasion. We are not concerned about your gender, religion, race, or sexual orientation.

The Area & Transport
Hopefully if you’re looking around Peckham, you already know how great it is! We have bougie little coffee shops and bakeries a 5-min walk away. Queen’s Road Peckham Overground Station is a 7-min walk and there are plenty of buses to the city as well as good bike routes. Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, and Sainsbury’s are all a 5-10 min walk away, Turkish shops and African groceries abound on Peckham Rye, and there’s two zero waste shops within 15 minutes, as well as Bellenden Road for other posh groceries, but it’s the food options and bars where Peckham really comes into its own: excellent ramen, Lebanese, Persian, Vietnamese, southern soul food, South African, Korean, the Prince of Peckham pub, Beer Revolution, and Peckham Cellars are a 5 minute walk from our front door. To work off the fun or nurse a hangover, Burgess Park and Peckham Rye are both running/cycling distance, and during the summer there are 4 rooftop bars a stone's throw away.

If you’re interested please drop us a message telling us a little bit about yourself. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
