Looking for a home from home?
Then please do read the whole of this ad before you get in touch which ultimately saves everyone time : )
Would you like to come and share our friendly 4 bedroom home... with me, an 11 year old, and our housemate, Share who's 28? : )
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR The flatmate we're looking for is first and foremost, child-friendly, (ideally, who's spent a lot of time around older kids), who's genuine, considerate and tidy; who's in professional work - (part time students are also welcome - sorry not full time ones). We would happily consider a male house mate who's had or happy to have a DBS check. If you work with children, you're already ahead of the game! Green-minded people are particularly appreciated as we always do our best to take care of our planet, which also, importantly, keeps the bills low!
Before you contact us, it's vital you have a proper profile with a photo on Spareroom.
Regulations mean we can't take couples, sorry.
THE ROOM is a very large double room with lovely high ceilings. It's airy and light - currently with stripped floors (like the rest of the house). It has a double bed, a handmade desk, a chest of drawers, and a wardrobe you can get into it's so large! There's space for storage underneath the bed as well. It's bigger than it looks in the photos.
THE HOUSE: There's access to all areas: kitchen (all mod cons, microwave/air fryer, dishwasher & washing machine etc.); living room and a garden with its own microclimate! There's a lovely travertine stone bathroom with a large shower for you and Share.
BILLS: We generally budget around £95-£155 each a month for bills (£54.27 of that is council tax for each of us - band D, I think). We take great care of what we use to keep the bills as low as possible - the house is not super hot (we put jumpers on before any heating (The ground floors are insulated). Our winter monthly bill total (December) was £126 each.
Bills: I cover the TV licence, all cleaning products, replacement mop heads etc., bin liners and dishwasher tabs etc. which add up to a lot each year, which is why we divide the utility and council tax bills by 3.
We have a good deal with Community Fibre (150 Mbps Fibre Broadband).
In the past, we've had the luxury of a cleaner who usually came every so often for 3 or 4 hours. We've recently taken time out to save money, but may take this up again depending on how things work out, so, just a heads up.
WHERE WE LIVE: We live in ZONE 3, Streatham Vale, in a quiet and friendly area.
There is currently free parking on our road.
ABOUT VENETIA
I am a charity fundraiser and have recently qualified as a therapist. I love meeting new people. I've travelled all over the world and have had lodgers since I was a post graduate and have remained great friends with so very many of them who we still see..
Our home will suit all sorts, including people who are new to London, as here, people really feel particularly welcome and at home. Our housemates tend to last a long time, around 2, 2 1/2 years. (Longest one was 4 years).
THE NEXT STEP: So, if our place sounds up your street, please do get in touch. If there's nothing much on your profile we'll ask you just to jot down a few things about you, if you're able. The way we arrange visits is simply using WhatsApp to find out more about you and we can show you around virtually. If we get on, we'll arrange, together with you, to come and see us in person. It all saves everyone so much time (and expenses) that way. : )
Thanks so much for reading this far. I'm impressed! It's very long, I know. Sorry! I hope it means most of your questions are answered.
Look forward to getting a message from you. Share or I will get back to anyone who seems like a potential housemate! Underneath I've pasted some references from the past for us!
Venetia : )
From Emily who bought a place nearby!:
'I’ve been staying with Venetia and Malinka for around 2 years. They immediately made me feel at home and I would happily have stayed on longer (the only reason I’m leaving is because I am now buying my own home).
I miss my nieces back home so I enjoy having a child around but wouldn’t recommend for those who don’t like being around kids. Venetia is always willing to help, and the room is lovely, spacious - it gets lots of natural light. It comes furnished with a very comfy double bed which is a plus.'
‘Hello potential housemates! My name is Venus, and unfortunately I moved out because my best friend moved back to London wanted us to find a place together. I persuaded her to find somewhere local in Streatham so we can keep seeing Venetia and her little one! I consider this a home away from home, Venetia is warm and caring and her kid is the smartest, cutest and funniest one I have met, who is amazing.
The house is lovely, tidy and clean. And there is a lovely garden...’
‘Hello, my name is Katharine
I moved out to live with my best friend to be near my new job! And I was actually really upset about it! I spent the happiest times living with Venetia and her kid. They really made things homely and welcoming here. They're both very caring people and I loved playing with Malinki. I loved sitting in the garden enjoying the sunshine with my housemates! I even had Easter lunch with Venetia's family, which was great.’
