I’m looking for a new flatmate for my 2 bedroom / 1 bathroom houseboat permanently moored in Surrey Docks Marina. The available room is very large and bright, and it’s a really special place to live!

Arcadia is a beautiful, light-filled boat with floor-to-ceiling windows in both bedrooms and the living room. The main space is open plan, with a large kitchen, dining area and living room, and the boat has two balconies overlooking the water on either end. It’s a lovely mix of having all the comforts of a normal flat while also getting to live right on the water.

Your Bedroom

The available room is the largest on the boat, opening directly onto a large balcony, and comes furnished.

The wardrobe is built in and very spacious, and there is additional storage under the bed. Because the room is so large there’s also plenty of space if you’d like to bring some of your own furniture and make the room feel like your own. It could work particularly well for someone creative, as there’s enough room to set up a small studio or workspace if needed.

The Boat

The rest of the boat is furnished with two sofas, a TV with Now TV, Netflix and Disney+, and a dining table. The kitchen has both a gas stovetop and an ESSE diesel stove that we use during the winter for heating and cooking. There’s also an onboard washer/dryer, and the shared bathroom has both a bathtub and a shower.

The boat has a private gate with secure space for storing bikes, and there is free parking available around the marina.

Boat Life & The Area

Living on a permanently moored houseboat gives you the best of both worlds – the charm of life on the water with all the comforts of a regular flat. We have running water, electricity, and marina-managed septic pump-outs, so day-to-day life feels pretty straightforward.

The marina itself is gated and has a really friendly community feel. The staff are around if anything is needed and people are always happy to lend a hand. Mail is delivered to a secure mailroom, and there are shared facilities including a community garden, extra bathrooms and laundry facilities, as well as a boatyard with storage or workspace if needed.

The marina is also home to swans, ducks and lots of other wildlife, which makes it feel like a small pocket of nature in the middle of London!

The boat is about a 10 minute walk to Surrey Quays Overground station and around a 15–18 minute walk to Canada Water on the Jubilee line, or a short bus ride from just outside the marina. There are several buses nearby, including one that goes directly to London Bridge. Small grocery shops and delis are a couple of minutes away, while larger supermarkets and the Surrey Quays shopping centre are about a ten minute walk. Stave Hill Ecological Park, Russia Dock Woodlands and Southwark Park are also all within walking distance.

About Me

I’m a 35-year-old designer and usually work in Chelsea during the week, so if you work from home you’ll likely have the boat to yourself during the day.

I also live with my toy poodle, Nacho, who is very friendly and loves a cuddle! He comes to work with me, so you wouldn’t be expected to look after him (although if you wanted to have his company whilst I go out, this would be welcome!)

I’d love to find someone easygoing who enjoys the space and treats it as a home. It would be nice to live with someone who’s happy to chat or share the occasional coffee or beer, but who also enjoys their own time and space.

Rent & Logistics

The rent for the room is £1200 per month plus bills, which usually come to around £100–£150 per person depending on the season. This includes electricity, diesel and gas, council tax, septic tank pump-outs and internet. The rent for the overall space is split 60/40 based on the size of the rooms.

The landlord manages the property and there is also a marine tradesperson available if anything boat-related needs attention.

I’m ideally looking for someone who can move in fairly immediately, though there can be some flexibility if needed. If it sounds like it might be a good fit, feel free to send me a message with a little about yourself and we can arrange a viewing!
