Single room to rent

I have a room available for rent. Anyone is welcome. The rent is £500 per month, plus bills, and it is very affordable. At the moment, there are two flatmates living in the property. My name is Aku Youse. I am from China, and I am currently a joint PhD student in English Literature at the University of Oxford.

I am posting this to warn others not to rent from this person.

I stayed in his property for only two months. I only had a two-month contract with him, and I only paid for two months. I did not agree to any six-month contract.

However, after I moved out, I discovered that a standing order had been set up in my HSBC banking app without my knowledge or consent. Money was then taken from my account. One payment was blocked by the bank, but another payment of £550 went through.

When I reported this to the bank, I later found out that he had shown the bank a six-month contract, even though I only had a two-month agreement with him. Because the bank accepted his explanation, it told me that it could not recover the money for me.

I also reported the matter to the police, but the investigation has been slow.

I have evidence, including bank records, screenshots, and chat records. Some of the records are in Chinese, and I can provide English translations. I will also make public the evidence relating to the standing order / automatic payment that was set up without my consent.

Based on my own experience, this person acted as a landlord / letting intermediary and appeared to manage or rent out multiple rooms or properties in the area.
