I do not take deposits as usually a problem so this is the way I work
You pay 2 months when you take the studio. One month for first months rent and the other is last month when you leave
During winter months Nov to March I ask an extra £5 per week to pay for extra heating
I have no objection to a child staying for weekends as long as its not on a permanent basis
I do understand that parents even though split up need to see their kids and have them stay for the odd times
