Chichester is a historic cathedral city with strong Roman connections and has an enormous array of things to do and places to visit. These attractions include the internationally renowned Chichester Festival Theatre, attracting actors and visitors from all over the world, the beautiful cathedral in West Street and various museums. The city is blessed with a variety of beautiful architecture with great care having been taken to preserve its character. The ancient walls surround the city centre and one can walk along them through various scenic parks, well stocked with pretty flowers. There is a thriving tennis and squash club, along with various fitness and health clubs as well as an interesting selection of shops and restaurants, the latter offering excellent choices for the most varied culinary tasteThe focus of this area is the beautiful estuary of Chichester harbour has many charming waterside villages to visit. Sailing is popular and boats can be launched from almost all of the villages of the harbour. There is excellent sailing and racing from Bosham, Itchenor, Dell Quay, Thorney Island, Emsworth and Hayling Island.
A few miles to the south of the city there are some superb beaches, including the sandy beach at West Wittering (see photo) accessible by car or your own boat. There is excellent windsurfing at the Witterings, Bracklesham Bay and Hayling Island.
