About Dot Dot Dot.

We are on a mission to get people housed by turning empty buildings into homes. Our residents get low-cost housing, the community benefits from dedicated volunteers, and properties stay secure. It’s a positive cycle that helps neighbourhoods flourish. As private rental options become increasingly scarce, and expensive, we understand that finding a place to stay that’s right for you can be stressful. Our pragmatic approach takes empty buildings and turns them into temporary accommodation. It’s an alternative way of life, free of many of the constraints of the conventional system, ideal if you want to give back, explore a new area, or become part of a community.

How long are your properties available for?

We protect properties for varying lengths of time, but typically our properties are available for 3-8 months. We rarely take on properties that are likely to be available for less than three months, and guardians can sometimes stay in properties for more than a year. However, as the notice period is 28 days, we can only guarantee the property will be available for 28 days at any time.

Meet our guardian community.

I’ve found being a property guardian with Dot Dot Dot really freeing. First, I get to decorate the space how I want. My flat is still a work in progress. Being able to enjoy my living environment is really important – I spend so much time here. I want the space to reflect who I am as a person, and with Dot Dot Dot I get to do that.

The property I’m currently taking care of is fantastic. I have a room dedicated to my creative things, a room dedicated to my clothes, a bedroom, separate living room and a kitchen. All for less money than I’d pay renting a room in London. It’s not permanent, but for now, it’s my little paradise.

Volunteering is another thing about guardianship with Dot Dot Dot that’s massively rewarding. I volunteer by teaching children how to mix music and spin discs. Music is my passion, and I enjoy sharing that with the kids.

Who can become a Dot Dot Dot guardian?

As a property guardian with us, you’ll find the safe and inexpensive housing you need. In return, you’ll ensure the security of the space, be a good neighbour to those around you, and give back to the local community through charitable work on causes you care about. Property guardianship is different from renting in the private sector as the main role of a guardian is to protect the property they live in. This means looking out for and reporting anti-social behaviour and maintenance issues. This doesn’t mean that you need to be there 24/7, but we do seek reliable and flexible people who will look after the property carefully. Where can I live with Dot Dot Dot? Many of our properties are located in southeast England, and are self-contained flats available for sole occupancy or to share. We also have some larger commercial properties such as former offices or residential homes.
