En-Suite Room Wanted - Cornwall, Near Coast - Sept
Greetings,
My name is James and I am looking for an en-suite room to rent.
I would like to live reasonably near the coast – the nearer the better, as I surf and dive (not scuba, just fins and mask) a lot.
I want to live somewhere quiet and I really do need a decent-sized room.
I would like to share ideally with only one other, single, person, i. e. the property-owner. I find that this kind of situation suits me well but I am not inflexible in this regard.
I do not like living in properties where there are hundreds of morons running around at all hours. I prefer peace and quiet.
I am working from home right now. I am an author and I am wrapping-up my first book.
At the moment I am lucky-enough to have my expenses covered by family as I finish publishing.
I am a quiet, decent, well-mannered, confident, friendly, intelligent, courteous person.
I am well-travelled, worldly and a good conversationalist.
I am sociable and mix well in any company though I prefer those with whom I can engage in some sort of intelligent conversation.
I drive so I can live in remote locations.
I am 45 but truly do not feel older than 27 and I look like I am in my thirties.
I am fit, healthy, very active and of sober habits. I do not drink or smoke but I do not mind associating, or spending time, with those who do.
I can provide references and I have never missed a rent-payment anywhere I have rented.
I am looking for a place for short- to medium-term.
I currently live near Padstow and am keen to see more of Cornwall.
I moved from Bournemouth to Cornwall a year ago purely to finish work on my book and to surf as much as I could, as because Cornwall sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean more than any other part of the island we live on (yes, even I forget sometimes that we live on an island – probably because when we generally think of islands we think of little mounds in the middle of the ocean with white sand, palm trees, fresh coconuts to eat all day long, and people wearing grass skirts on them), it receives more swell (read waves) than any other part of the United Kingdom.
Although I am working from home I do not just stay in all of the time – that would send a person crazy... I get out into the ocean as often as possible to pursue my sea-based interests and I also run frequently. I attend boxing/kickboxing gyms too, or at least gyms which have punchbags to use, so as to get a really good workout. I also have a few dumb-bells which I use for weight-training at home, and I also practise calisthenics and stretching. I like to look and feel good, and to be strong and fit in general but also in support of my surfing. People often think that surfing is just for hippy-dippy types who lounge around and smoke dope all of the time but if you really want to excel at it you must be strong and fit. Fitness maximises your ability to catch waves, ride them skilfully, and engage with the ocean safely (this info. for those who may not surf).
I like films, books, music, art, dance and good food. I can cook but it is only rarely that I bother to cook anything complex unless I am entertaining or trying to impress somebody.
I am interested in politics and I am open to discussion on any topic at all. I am sensitive and accommodating to anyone's beliefs as I understand that not everyone sees things the same way. I enjoy appreciating other people's perspectives and the opportunity to learn that listening to others offers.
I am am a born-and-bred Englishman (well strictly-speaking I was born in the Netherlands but my parents are British – my father and mother were just living there during a period of time during which my father was working there and I arrived during that time too, though we all came home within a year of my birth) but I travelled and lived in South Africa for seven years in my thirties. That was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life and really helped me to further my understanding of world-affairs and the differences between cultures.
I can, as a result of my time in South Africa, speak almost fluent Afrikaans (a Dutch/Flemish-based language spoken by a large segment of the population in that country) and I have a basic grasp of most of the languages of the black population there too.
I speak reasonable French, a little German, rudimentary Spanish, basic Turkish (due to a previous relationship with a Turkish girl) and in general I pick up languages easily.
I enjoy communicating and socialising but I enjoy my own time just as much.
I have visited the United States of America twice (New England in the East, and California in the West), Switzerland (skiing), Turkey, France numerous times, Portugal, and Canada to see relatives there, and I also skied there too.
I hope you have enjoyed reading my list of requirements/preferences, and my introduction to me.
If you would like to meet with me with a view to sharing your dwelling with me then please contact me either by phone or through the Spareroom message service.
Regards,
James :-D
