More about myself at the end!

I am not a female, BUT...

I do acknowledge that in the majority of cases on SpareRoom, even if not specified outright, it is the case that a 'Female is preferred'. I think I understand why. BUT, I have previous female flatmates that I am still very close friends with to this day from three separate apartments. I have asked, and they are more than happy for me to pass you their contact details so you may contact them with any questions about myself and our time living together. I am also keen for you to ask anything of me, such as any extra information, a phone call, or even a coffee some time soon so you can get a read on me more as a person! (if you think it would make you more comfortable). If however this is not something you are keen on, no problem at all and I thank you for your time regardless.

WHY AM I LOOKING FOR A PLACE RIGHT NOW?
I was living in Canada the entire summer doing fieldwork for a research project of mine, and as such was unable to arrange a place to stay back here in Edinburgh. I have been searching for a wee place to stay whilst I complete my last year of study since I got back, and I haven't really seen many places that suit me yet (I am perhaps a bit too picky).

I ideally need a room with a desk as I write a copious amount. I love the meadows, so no complaints from me if I can find a place there! Also, the main and law libraries are where I tend to spend 8+ hours a day, so if within walking distance to either, that would be ideal.

WHY AM I A GOOD FLATMATE?
I don't mind sharing my food and snacks! I am also rather handy, having spent my formative years brought up on a farm, and having worked them for 15+ years. Turns out I have picked up a thing or two about maintenance during this time. This has saved me and previous flat mates and landlords a lot of money since (probably about £5k worth) and the job is always better done! I am tidy, and don't mind contributing funds towards upkeep in communal spaces. Also, although I do enjoy socialising and I am easy to talk with by nature, I do enjoy my space and personal time.

MORE ABOUT ME!
I am a mature student doing a degree in Philosophy. I am doing my dissertation this year and am actually quite looking forward to it (it is on the second law of thermodynamics and how traditional ways of perceiving entropy can be logically challenged when considering a theory of biological informational latency). I enjoy research and academia, and have already published work and have just submitted another paper in the fields of critical geography, political theory, and property theory to the journal Antipode, and am always reading and writing for my next project. I actually want a career in academia and am currently submitting applications to PhD programmes in Anthropology for next year in New York city.

I promise I am only a half nerd however and also enjoy a wee drink with friends, road trips, pub quizzes (specifically the golf tavern or Chanter on Thursday nights), camping, hiking, travelling (I once converted a camper van to tour Europe in then lived in it in the highlands). I also love movies and shows, currently re-watching better call Saul with my partner!

Additionally, I don't smoke nor do I have a pet (sadly). I value peace and quiet these days in my 'ripe old age' of 29, so no longer partake in 'heavy' partying.
