Young Freelancer + Phd Student Seeking a Room

I’m looking for a room to rent in London and am ready to move in immediately. Preferred areas are South and Southeast (Brixton, Dulwich, Peckham, Camberwell, Bermondsey, Southwark, Rotherhithe, Deptford, Lewisham, Greenwich, and Blackheath), North (Islington, Crouch End, Stoke Newington, Finsbury Park), and East and Northeast (Dalston, Hackney, and Walthamstow).

I’m looking for a queer-friendly household, preferably with other MA or PhD students or creatives. The number of housemates doesn’t matter, as long as there are enough bathrooms to accommodate everyone and there is a rota for cleaning and household tasks.

My absolute maximum budget is £750, bills included, and I’m ready to pay on a monthly basis. I’m a legal refugee in the UK, currently in receipt of benefits as well as freelancing and actively seeking full-time employment. Part of my stable income from benefits can be allocated towards covering rent.

I’m Misha, a 29-year-old Russian-born person of Korean descent, and a pro-Ukrainian political and queer refugee in the UK. I’m a writer, translator, film critic and curator, as well as a Film and TV PhD candidate at the University of Warwick, currently at the final stage of my thesis.

I value my own privacy and that of my housemates above all, and as a rule I am quiet and clean. I usually spend my days working from libraries and cafes, and I try to dedicate at least two evenings a week to exhibitions, screenings, book launches and gigs. I occasionally commute to the Midlands to teach at Warwick and may also be away for weeks at a time to attend conferences or film festivals.
