Professional Science Teacher Seeking Homeshare / Lodger / Guardian Arrangement – Ideally Under £300, Maximum £500

Hello,

I am a mature, responsible and professionally employed secondary school Science and Chemistry teacher looking for an affordable place to live in North London, Enfield or the surrounding Hertfordshire area.

I am particularly interested in a mutually beneficial arrangement, rather than simply renting a conventional commercial room.

My absolute maximum housing budget is £500 per calendar month, preferably including bills.

However, £500 is my ceiling, not my target.

The lower the monthly housing cost, the more attractive the arrangement is to me, particularly where I can offer useful, reasonable and mutually agreed support in return.

Ideally, I am looking for something below £300 per month, and I would be especially interested in very low-cost, nominal-rent or reduced-rent arrangements where there is a fair exchange of support, companionship or practical help.

About me

I am a qualified secondary school Science and Chemistry teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

I teach secondary-school Science and Chemistry and can also provide Mathematics tuition.

I have a strong academic and professional background across:

I am therefore also open to households with children.

Because I am a teacher, I may also be able to offer private tuition or educational support as part of a mutually agreed reduced-rent arrangement.

I am not offering myself as a substitute for a regulated professional carer, nurse or personal-care worker.

However, I am comfortable providing companionship, reassurance and appropriate practical support within clearly agreed boundaries.

Clear agreement about hours and responsibilities

This is very important to me.

Before entering into any reduced-rent or support-based arrangement, I would want us to agree clearly:

- The monthly rent or contribution
- What bills are included
- What support I am expected to provide
- Approximately how many hours per week are expected
- Which days or times support may normally be required
- What tasks are included
- What tasks are not included
- Privacy and personal-space expectations
- Overnight expectations, if any
- Notice arrangements
- Any house rules

I believe this protects both the homeowner and me.

I want any arrangement to be clear, unambiguous, respectful and mutually beneficial, so neither person feels uncertain about what is expected.

For example, if accommodation is offered at a very substantially reduced rent, we could agree a reasonable number of hours of companionship, household assistance or tuition each week.

What I would not want is an undefined arrangement where responsibilities gradually increase without agreement.

Everything should be discussed openly and agreed from the beginning.

My budget

My absolute maximum is:

£500 per calendar month

However:

Below £300 per month is strongly preferred.

And I am particularly interested in opportunities between:

£0–£300 per month

where accommodation costs are reduced in exchange for an appropriate and clearly agreed contribution from me.

This could involve companionship, light household support, property presence, tutoring or another mutually beneficial arrangement.

So if you have a spare room but do not necessarily need to charge full commercial rent and would instead value having a trustworthy professional living in your home and contributing in other ways — I would be very interested in hearing from you.
