Seeking Double Bedroom in South Manchester Suburbs

Probably more Hinge than Spareroom!

Hello potential housemates,

My name is Aoife (pronounced Ee-fa) and I’m about to start a new chapter in Manchester. On September 1st I begin a senior lectureship at the law department in Manchester Metropolitan University. From August 28th I seek to rent a room in the south suburbs, within an easy commute to MMU. I’m hoping to cycle to work, but also seeking good public transport links to Oxford Road for rainy days. My budget is £600 per month (including bills). I have a house of my own in Essex, so I just need a foothold in Manchester for the first academic year and then I can decide where I am to live more permanently.

I'm quiet and clean, but also friendly and good fun. Generally, I go to bed early, get up, go to work and I anticipate spending quite a bit of time on campus during the first year. I’ll be away at least one weekend a month, if not more. I’m an excellent cook - with a primary focus on vegetarian cuisine, but occasionally I do chicken or fish (I’d skip these options in a vegetarian household). Ideally, I’d like to live with one or two other people.

I’m big into fitness. Aside from cycling and walking, I take dance classes and will look for suitable opportunities in Manchester. In shared living spaces, I’m seeking somewhere I can roll out my yoga mat and do yoga/Pilates/weight training 3-4 times a week (I’d put everything away neatly after). Of course, if the bedroom is big enough, I can exercise there.

In terms of the bedroom itself – a quiet room with a comfortable double bed and a good quality mattress. A wardrobe for hanging professional work clothes and a chest of drawers. A desk and chair would be useful for any out of hours bits and pieces. Bedside drawers and a bedside lamp would be great. Also, a bedroom that can be properly darkened with blackout curtains and blinds.

I am happy to contribute to housework, cleaning, putting rubbish out, gardening or other jobs as they arise. As I have been an Airbnb host for 10 months and am in the process of drafting a lodger’s agreement for a longer term lodger in my own property, I understand the situation from a landlord/lady’s perspective. The main thing is that everyone feels comfortable with the arrangement and that’s where personality compatibility is very important.
