The House / Room
***Available 1st Nov but there is room for some flexibility***
The home is a 3-bed Victorian terrace, one of Totterdown’s brightly coloured houses (it’s a muted pink), in great condition throughout (double glazed windows in every room) and quite spacious. Separate living room, dining room and kitchen with a large cooker. The dining room has a table that can seat 4 and there are warm floorboards throughout that make it feel warm and cosy throughout. Patio doors in the dining room open out onto the low maintenance garden where there is a small dining table, festoon lights, outdoor sofa and chair as well as a washing line to dry your clothes outdoors and space to store bikes.
The house is well insulated, making it cosy and energy efficient in colder months. The bathroom is downstairs off the kitchen but it features underfloor heating and a bath tub as well as a shower with good water pressure. There is good wi-fi in the house and a large TV in the living room with an amazon firestick giving access to logged in subscriptions like Netflix and Amazon Prime. There is also a working fireplace in the dining room so we could light a fire or 2 over a Christmas break / snow day (once I get a chimney sweep in).
The house is on Hill street in the heart of Lower Totterdown. There is a fantastic brunch café at the end of the road – Sundial kitchen and an incredible pizza takeaway place - Laura's Pizza as well. 5 mins walk away is Bakehouse bakery and Coffee shop, Oxford Pub, Carouse wine bar, Bank Restaurant, Tesco, an independent green grocer’s and Victoria Park. Temple Meads Station is just a 10-minute walk away, making commuting and travel incredibly convenient. There are also two Dott scooter bays within 30 seconds walk for easy access across the city. Parking in the area is free but to park outside the house requires you to be a confident parallel parker I would say!
The room is bright white and will come furnished with a double bed, comfy mattress and a large wardrobe and faces out onto the garden. It will have space for some furniture to be brought in like a bedside table and chest of drawers and there are a few hooks already in the wall for hanging your own art up or you could use those no nail stick ons. The room is 870pcm inc bills. I think the house / room would best suit single occupant but I am open to the discussion of a partner moving in at a later date once there has been some time to consider / get to know them.
I plan to keep the 3rd bedroom for guests at weekends to visit for the time being and a helpful storage room but if you had a friend who needed a place to live for a few months I am open to the idea of letting it out for a shorter run (3 months).
In terms of house cleanliness - I like to keep it clean and tidy but it has been a bit of a state recently with recently moving in. I hope to get a cleaner to come fortnightly over winter but would love someone who doesnt mind doing some occassional vaccuming / moping or wiping down in the kitchen and bathroom whenever they feel its needed (I will also do the same) and keeps the space feeling tidy for friends or family coming over.
About Me
Hi, I’m Nadine, I’m 36. I recently bought this house and was living here with a friend as we had both just moved to Bristol / moved back to Bristol. However, with her moving in with her partner sooner than expected, I am looking for someone to take my bedroom and I move into hers. I work freelance in TV and Film and work contract to contract. For the next 6 months My upcoming schedule is that I will be working away for most of the week and return for a Friday – Sunday weekend. This means the house will sometimes feel like your own place and if that appeals to you then this would be a good fit. When I am here I will be working from home if it’s a weekday and likely here on evenings at the weekend. In the house I enjoy having a laugh together and a bit of peace and chill time. These days I go out to meet up with friends but it’s often day related activities and more wholesome things. In the house I like to have a bit of radio 6 playing in the dining room and to watch films or TV shows quite a bit (hence my profession) so will often throw out watching something together. I also like to cook and will be getting more into hosting friends for dinner although I would say this won’t be all the time by any means as I feel the pressure cooking for more than a couple of people. I eat meat and fish in the house so it may not suit someone who is a strict vegan. It would be great to bond with whoever moves in and do things like countryside walks, visit some places outside Bristol for days out, sauna visits, swims, yoga or reformer pilates, creative workshops, exhibitions, watershed for a film or go play some padel / tennis.
Lachie
If you've got this far you should know about the queen bee of the house, the 3rd housemate which is Lachie. She is my black and white domestic shorthair cat and a total joy! She is quite timid with new people and a bit of a scaredy cat but warms up quick and is REALLY VERY cuddley! She will hang out in the same room as you and make great company if your working from home. For my upcoming contract my plan is to put her food out to cover her mon - tuesday and then a friend will pop in and see her every wednesday for cuddles and to work in my room for a bit. If your used to cats, not allergic and up for feeding her then she will only require a top up of fresh water every other day and a tin of food in the evening. She gets her breakfast from the automatic feeder and I will be the one to deal with her litter. She goes out but never goes far because she is used to not having a cat flap. I'd really like someone to give her company but also tell me if they see anything wrong with her health or if she goes missing and doesnt come in at night.
