Update: The reason my advert specifies a preference for a female flatmate is simply for comfort and practicality — the bathroom and living areas are shared, and as I’m male, I feel it would be more comfortable for my partner (who stays regularly) and for the new lodger if we house-share with another female. There’s no other motive behind the preference, just ensuring that everyone feels at ease in the home environment.
