Hampstead-Free Studio for 15 Hrs Weekly Support

A lovely opportunity for a mature university student or someone who works professionally or from home to live in a very large, warm and friendly family home in Hampstead, in exchange for around 15 hours of practical help per week, as well as being around when the family travels (during every school holiday) and on some evenings when the parents are out.

We’re ideally looking for someone who has their own work, studies or regular daytime routine and leads an independent life. There is absolutely no expectation for you to be sitting around the house during the day apart from some weekends when the family travels ( approx 4 months of the year)

The house is in a great location, around a 10-minute walk from both Hampstead and Belsize Park Underground stations.

The family is warm, friendly and respectful, with a busy household. The parents are professionals working in the finance and media sectors and have five children in total, including a 15-year-old at boarding school, a 19-year-old at university who lives away from home, and a 24-year-old at university who lives at home . The household also includes two lovely and friendly Labradoodles, so this would be a great fit for someone who genuinely enjoys having dogs around.

You’ll have your own self-contained studio on the lower-ground floor, with a double bed, private bathroom and kitchenette, giving you plenty of privacy and your own space. You’ll also have access to the main prep kitchen used by the family’s chef. The house is very spacious and has a modern security system and smart-home technology throughout. **All bills and Wi-Fi are included.**

WHAT’S INVOLVED:

The arrangement is for around **15 hours of practical help per week**. This includes walking the dogs once a day, which can easily be fitted around your own work or study hours, as well as helping with simple household tasks such as bins, deliveries and keeping the main kitchen tidy — particularly at weekends when the housekeeper is off, or during school holidays when the children are back home.

The 15 hours will also include helping with packing and unpacking around family trips, assisting when the family is hosting dinner parties, making the master bed at weekends, and doing a quick general tidy when the housekeeper is off.
This isn’t a heavy cleaning or housekeeping role, as the family has a full-time housekeeper who takes care of the regular cleaning, laundry and changing of beds. However, it is important that the person is comfortable with these practical household tasks and is naturally proactive and happy to pitch in where needed in a busy family home.

The family travels during every school holiday, generally for around 1–4 weeks at a time, so an important part of this arrangement is being genuinely happy to house-sit while they are away. You’ll be trusted to feed the fish and generally keep an eye on the house and its security. The dogs may also need looking after on some trips, although they usually travel with the family during the longer summer, Easter and Christmas holidays.

When the family is away, your days remain your own — you can go to work, university, appointments, see friends and continue with your normal routine. During the week, we simply need you to make the house your base from around 6/7pm onwards and stay overnight.

At weekends during these holiday periods, we’d ask you to be around the house for a reasonable amount of time during the day and evening, while of course still being able to go out and make your own plans. The key is finding someone whose lifestyle naturally works with this arrangement and who is comfortable being the trusted presence in the house while the family is away.

There may also be occasional evenings when the parents are out and would like someone to be around. This won’t be every time they go out and will always be communicated in advance.

There is no heavy cleaning, ironing etc involved, as the family has a full-time housekeeper. It’s really about having an extra pair of hands when the house is busy and helping with the small practical things that keep everything running smoothly. You’ll be responsible for keeping your own studio clean and taking care of your own laundry.

**SCHEDULE & COMMUNICATION:**

We want the arrangement to work well for everyone, so good communication is important. Dates and times will always be confirmed by the Principal’s Private PA at least one week in advance (although monthly calendar is shared a month in advance) except in a genuine emergency. School-holiday dates are known well in advance, so you’ll be able to plan around them.

WHO WOULD BE A GREAT FIT?

We’d love to find someone who is mature, emotionally intelligent, genuinely caring, friendly, responsible and trustworthy, with a proactive attitude and an easy-going nature.

Ideally, you’ll have your own job, university course or established daytime routine, so we can both enjoy our independence and the arrangement feels like your home rather than your workplace.

You’ll need to genuinely like dogs and be comfortable having them around — they’re very friendly and may even occasionally decide they’d like to sleep with you!

This could work particularly well for a mature student, postgraduate, someone who works from home, or someone with a flexible schedule who likes the idea of having their own private space while still being part of a welcoming household. It could also be a great opportunity for someone who would like to save on rent while saving towards their own flat or house

FEMALE PREFFERED, as we feel this would be the best fit for the household and the nature of the arrangement.

We’re ideally looking for someone who can commit for at least one year. Due to the nature of the arrangement, guests are not permitted.

As this is a position of trust within a private family home, applicants will need to provide a CV, passport/ID and excellent, checkable references. References will be contacted and verified as part of the process, and a DBS check will also be carried out.
