COMMUNITY-MINDED HOUSEMATES WANTED

Room available from start of Oct, flexible move-in date, and we can hold it for the right person. Also a sublet available for 3 months from Nov.

We’re looking for a friendly, community-minded person to join our big, beautiful and slightly unusual warehouse home.

In short: we’re a large, sociable household who genuinely enjoy living together. We’re LGBTQIA+ friendly and welcoming, relaxed and open-minded, and we’re looking for someone who is kind, clean, considerate and interested in being part of a community, not just renting a room.

The house is social without being a big party house, although with this many people there is naturally some bustle, and we do have loud music or celebrations late into the night on roughly one or two Fridays or Saturdays a month, so if you need total silence, this probably isn't the right home for you.

We receive a lot of interest and have limited viewing slots, so please tell us a good amount about yourself when you message. Generic messages are unlikely to get a response simply because of the volume of enquiries.

THE HOUSE

Our home is a large converted warehouse made up of two connected sides (Sides 1 and 2), joined internally by corridors and externally by a spacious shared garden.

Each side has:

- Two fully equipped kitchens, including two ovens and two sinks, with shared pots, plates, etc.
- Three bathrooms — two showers and one bath
- 14 bedrooms
- Huge communal living areas

There are also studio and chill-out spaces, plus a large mezzanine with loads of potential for creative projects, workshops or working from home.

Although we live across two sides, we operate as one community. There’s almost always someone around to chat with, watch TV, play board games or borrow oat milk from, but because everyone has different schedules, the shared spaces rarely feel crowded.

The house is very well set up for shared living.

THE HOUSEHOLD

We’re a diverse group of creatives, hands-on workers and professionals, from tree surgeons to anthropologists, charity workers to physicists, and everything in between.

The household is very LGBTQIA+ leaning, with allies very welcome. We’re liberal, open-minded and respectful, and the house is broadly left-leaning and intersectional. Being queer or an ally is essential to the household culture.

We enjoy cooking and eating together, board games, films and the occasional group night out. We throw a very good party a couple of times a year and enjoy music and drinks at weekends, but this is fundamentally a relaxed, family-feeling home rather than a party house, especially during the week.

Having said that, with so many people, we have a lot of birthdays and enjoy celebrating each other, so you can expect some lively evenings and, roughly once or twice a month, potentially quite late music on a Friday or Saturday.

THE ROOM

All rooms are good-sized doubles, with space for a sofa and desk if you work from home. There’s also loads of additional communal space for creative or desk-based activities.

Rooms are mostly unfurnished, although you may be able to take furniture from the outgoing tenant or elsewhere in the warehouse community. You’re free to decorate your room however you like, and many people fully personalise their spaces.

When someone moves out, current tenants often reshuffle rooms, so the rooms advertised are usually the smaller ones, although they are still proper doubles. Larger rooms come up regularly, and existing housemates get first choice.

One important thing to know:

The bedrooms do not have traditional windows.

There is a fresh-air circulation system bringing air in from outside, and glass bricks let in some light from the very bright communal spaces.

We want to be completely upfront about this because it won't suit everyone. If you're comfortable with the unusual bedroom setup, the rest of the warehouse offers a huge amount of bright, spacious communal living space.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for someone who is:

- Kind, chilled and considerate
- Clean and good at cleaning up after themselves. This is important!
- Able to coexist, compromise and communicate
- Comfortable living with lots of other people
- Interested in getting involved socially from time to time
- Happy to contribute to a shared home rather than treating it as somewhere to sleep

You absolutely don't need to be around all the time, and everyone has their own lives, but this isn't a house where people generally stay in their rooms and ignore each other.

Bonus points if you bring a skill, interest, hobby or creative energy to the space.

All diets are welcome; the house currently leans vegetarian, with a few vegans.

The house is probably best suited to someone with a roughly Mon–Fri, 9–5 schedule, as that's how much of the household operates and it helps minimise noise friction.

Age & diversity

We currently have a preference for people over 29, partly because we'd like to maintain a good balance across the household. We're also keen to welcome people of all ethnicities and backgrounds.

These preferences are guidelines rather than hard rules. If you think you'd be a great fit but don't match them exactly, please still message, but we are especially keen to balance out the slightly older end of the age range at the moment.

BONUS POINTS

We're part of a wider warehouse community, with other units nearby and a lovely bar right at the entrance.

The location also has excellent transport links:

- 7-minute walk (or short bus ride) to Manor House, Seven Sisters and Stamford Hill
- 15-minute walk or 5-minute bus to Finsbury Park and Green Lanes
- Plenty of local shops and great takeaways

The tenancy is a rolling monthly contract, including:

- All bills
- Internet
- A cleaner

There's also a £10/month contribution to a shared kitty for household supplies and fun house upgrades

A NOTE FROM A CURRENT HOUSEMATE

I've lived here for several years and genuinely love it.

Many of us are invested in the space and continually work to improve it. There’s currently a really great vibe, and we'd love to keep that going.

It's an unusual home, and definitely not for everyone, but if you're looking for somewhere friendly, creative and communal, it can be a really special place to live.

If you're chilled, clean, considerate and looking for a home and a community, not just somewhere to sleep, we'd love to hear from you.

Please message us with some information about yourself, what you do, what you're like to live with, and what you're looking for in a home. The more you tell us, the easier it is for us to get a sense of whether we'd be a good fit.

We look forward to meeting you!
