N. B. Room comes without a bed!
Hi there,
I'm Chris, a current flatmate at this flat in New Cross.
The flat we're in is a bohemian affair: The rent is decent for the size by 2026 standards (ALL bills included), the location is spectacular if you're into underground art, and the trade-off is that the flat isn't that pretty to look at. That said, we respect it greatly and make a real home out of it.
It's a real elbow-grease affair. The landlord, Marco, took it over from a slumlord. DIY and professional work has gone into it becoming perfectly liveable: Some stains are simply here to stay, but other than that you've got a decent kitchen to cook in, and plumbing, electricity, and heating that works.
Marco is a responsive landlord. If anything breaks, he'll get on arranging a contractor whether he's in the country or not.
About the neighbourhood:
If you're into underground music, it's pretty perfectly placed. You've got the New Cross Inn for hardcore and metal gigs a stones throw away, and Planet Wax as the southeast's hub for dance music facing it. You're a walk away from the infamous Bermondsey Triangle, and a bus ride away from Deptford and Peckham for their venues.
There are cafes next door, a queer cocktail bar down the street, and two great pubs opposite the flat.
Food options are decent--nice Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Lebanese in walking distance.
Transport across the rest of London is some of the best you'll have in the southeast thanks to the flat being in-between New Cross and New Cross Gate stations.
About us:
I'm Chris, in my early thirties. I'm working as a receptionist. I share the biggest room with my girlfriend Astra. I'm really into film, literature, and music, so I'm frequently hosting film nights, heading to London's many great cinemas, or going out for gigs and club nights.
Astra is in her early forties. She's working at the M. O. T nightclub and (re)building her career in photography and lighting design. She harbours a growing interest in literature and film, and is a great synth-pop musician to boot. Most importantly, she's a phenomenal cook who loves cooking together and sharing food.
Rom and Craig share the other room in the flat. Both work very long hours, so you won't see them much. That said they're very friendly and super helpful; they've both been great flatmates for us.
About you:
Most importantly, we're looking for someone tidy, clean, friendly, and communicative. Co-living rarely comes without its issues; what's most important to us is that you can talk through those issues with us and not be unreasonable.
Expect smells from the kitchen and bumps in the night--not 1am bedroom raves!
It's a lovely bonus if you're into film, literature, and/or music.
Hope to hear from you.
Cheers,
Chris
