We have a south facing double room available in July (exact date tbc) in our lovely 3 bed, 2 bath home near Streatham Common.

We are looking for a 24-30 year old, Queer Black or POC FLINTA () who is tidy, responsible, emotionally mature, caring, cat friendly, has good communication skills and is able to bravely navigate conflict resolution. It is important that this person is homely, not just seeking a house but looking to pour into a responsible and caring culture of homeliness. We are prioritising people who are aligned with our critical politics rooted in black feminism, disability justice, anti-capitalism and decoloniality – it is about willingness to learn and practice, not perfection.

Money + Tenancy info:
Rent is £916.67.
Bills are approximately £130.
We are on a zero-deposit scheme – you will have to pay a non-refundable amount of approximately £200 to join.
Property is managed by Foxtons – referencing required.
Housing benefits welcome so long as you have a UK based guarantor for referencing.
The new renters right bill is now in effect so we will be on a rolling contract.

About our home:
The room is on the ground floor and comes partly furnished with a bed and wardrobe. It is a cozy and spacious double. The picture does not do it justice so viewing will be essential.
There is a bathroom on each floor so you will essentially have a bathroom to yourself – you will of course be responsible for keeping this clean for personal and guest use.
Our home has a shared living room, spacious kitchen, fair amount of storage space, a spare room upstairs, and a garden with a shed.
Accessibility wise, there are two steps at the front of the house – one at the external front door and another at the internal front door. There are two steps leading down into the garden.
Vibe wise, we are not a party house but we both enjoy welcoming in lovely energy by individually and/or collaboratively hosting cosy, chatty, creative, dancey gatherings. We are always livening up the place with new decorations so we would love someone willing to contribute to the building of a warm and cosy home (aesthetically and energetically). We are also a 420 friendly home.

About us:
Muva (they/she) – 25yo queer neurodivergent Nigerian, Athea’s mama, black trans feminist organiser. As a housemate I am an ambivert, a clear and direct communicator, caring, boundaried, and invested in cultivating a supportive home environment/culture. I am interested and engaged in African indigenous spirituality, astrology, writing, reading, sewing, crocheting, homemaking, and an extensive list of other creative, political, spiritual and philosophical pursuits.

Hoodo (she/they) – 24yo queer Somali black feminist. As a housemate ,I am warm, caring, considerate and love making a space feel homey. I currently work in education and with young people. I love history, reading, liberatory theory, walks, biking and exploring the local area.

Athea – Indoor cat, chill and friendly, does not get along with other animals so we are not welcoming any other pets at this time. Not super loud but can get chatty when she wants attention, or when she spots another cat in the garden.

Local area and amenities:
Approximately 8 minutes’ walk to Streatham Common station.
20-30 minute Southern rail trains into Victoria and London Bridge.
Roughly 15 minutes’ walk to Streatham Common park.
Access to buses 45, 60, 133, 250, etc.
Approximately 30 minutes’ bus drive to Brixton station.
Local shops include Coop, Lidl, Sainsburys local, pharmacy, post office, a leisure centre/gym, several corner shops and restaurants. There is a large Sainsburys about a 15-minute walk away.
