We’re looking for a lovely new housemate to join our friendly, relaxed home in Streatham Hill!

A little about us

There are currently two of us living here.

I’m 41, a maths tutor and the live-in landlord. Alessio is 42, a friend and tenant who works as a concept artist and in retail. We’re both gay men, friendly, sociable and fairly laid-back.

We both split our working lives between working from home and heading out to work, and ideally we’d like someone with a similar sort of routine. It’s nice having people around during the day, but equally nice when everyone gets a bit of space to themselves.

We enjoy spending time together at home, whether that’s having a chat, sharing a meal or watching something on TV. We also occasionally head out together for a drink at the pub or a night out.

That said, we’re very much independent adults with our own lives, and there’s absolutely no expectation that we all have to do everything together.

There’s also Alfred, my miniature schnoodle, who lives here two weeks on, two weeks off. He’s a lovely little character and very much part of the household, so ideally you’d be someone who enjoys having a dog around (at least half the time!).

The room and the flat

The room is a good-sized double, available now for single occupancy at £950 per month, including all bills.

The flat has plenty of shared living space, including:

* A comfortable living room for relaxing and socialising.
* A separate kitchen.
* A separate dining room.
* A garden.
* Plenty of space to enjoy your own company or spend time together.

One of the things I particularly like about the flat is that there’s enough communal space that we’re not constantly on top of one another.

The dining room can also double as a guest bedroom when needed. You’d be very welcome to use it for visiting friends or family too, within reason. We want everyone to feel comfortable having people over and treating the place as their home.

The area

We’re in a lovely residential part of Streatham Hill, close to Hillside Gardens Park, with plenty of green space nearby.

Transport links are good:

* Around a 10-minute walk to Streatham Hill station.
* Around a 15-minute walk to Tulse Hill station, with Thameslink services.
* Good connections into central London and beyond.

It’s a nice balance of being well connected while still having a neighbourhood feel.

Who we’re looking for

More than anything, we’re looking for someone who’s easy-going, considerate and happy to be part of a friendly household.

We generally keep the flat pretty tidy and would appreciate someone who naturally does the same.

That doesn’t mean we’re looking for someone who wants to live in a show home! Life happens, people get busy, and occasionally things get a bit messy. It’s really just about everyone doing their bit, being considerate and understanding that a bit of flexibility goes a long way when sharing a home.

We’re sociable and enjoy having a laugh, but equally appreciate our own space and downtime.

Ideally, we’d like someone who sees this as somewhere to settle and feel at home, rather than simply somewhere to sleep.

What about pets?

We’re potentially open to someone bringing a dog, although this would depend on their size, temperament and, most importantly, whether they get along with Alfred.

We’d need to discuss this and arrange for the dogs to meet before agreeing to anything.

A little honesty about the flat

In the interests of being completely upfront, there is one downside worth mentioning.

We have some neighbours who occasionally like to play music late into the night. It’s not constant, but when it happens, it can be disruptive.

If you’re particularly sensitive to noise or need guaranteed peace and quiet every night, this probably isn’t the right place for you.

I’d much rather be honest about that from the outset than have someone move in and discover it isn’t suitable.

The important bit

Ultimately, we’re looking for someone who wants to make a home here.

Somewhere we can all feel comfortable, have a laugh, respect each other’s space and enjoy living together without lots of unnecessary rules or drama.

We’re a friendly LGBTQ+ household, but you certainly don’t need to be LGBTQ+ yourself. We’re much more interested in finding someone whose personality and approach to living together fit well with ours.

If that sounds like your sort of place, drop us a message telling us a little about yourself, what you do and what you’re looking for in a home.

We’d love to hear from you!
