I have a houseboat available for rent. It is located in London at Greenland Dock within the South Dock Marina. The closest street is Sout Sea Street SE16 7US.
The boat is a Dutch Barge and is 54 ft long and 15 ft wide - that makes it a double-wide so perfect for the size queens on here!
It consists of a large open plan cabin with a sleeping area, containing a double bed (divan with storage) and further storage space.
This opens to the main living space with living room and kitchen, full sink, gas hob, electric mini oven, etc.
There is a separate bathroom with a hip-bath and over-bath shower and WC.
Upstairs there is a wheelhouse which is currently used as the work from home space by the soon to be moving out tenant.
The accommodation is rounded out by an external deck, enclosed by a fitted awning, perfect for breakfasting on the water - though be aware the swans, gloves, moorhens, mallards and geese may swim up asking for their share.
The barge is in a gated marina - it is very secure and unlike canal moorings, the public do not have access to the walk-ways.
That means deliveries can’t directly access the boat either but helpfully there is a deliver service at the marina office, located five minutes away on Rope Street, which accepts post and parcels, 8:00 am to 6:00pm.
The boat is on the sales market - I really don’t want it to go so I am very thankful the market is dead currently and it has had 2 viewings in as many years - but that does mean you can view its listing on Boatshead website. If I manage to get a tenant we will take it off the sales market.
The boat is hooked up to electricity and can be attached to full-fibre broadband, though the current tenant does his entire work from home over MS Team businesses via a 5G hotspot.
Water is included - there is piped water at the boat side - you just need to fill a tank - when I lived there it was once a week when just never twice when my husband stayed.
Council tax is somewhat less straightforward; you will need to take advice on whether it is payable in your circumstances.
The boat is five minutes from two bus stops, either of which will have you at Canada Water in 5 minutes more. That is on the Jubilee and Windrush lines. The dock is also two minutes from Greenland Dock pier of the Thames riverboat service.
The price is £1,700 pcm. Cheap for a magical way to live in London, 45 minutes from Trafalgar Square but with the quietness and tranquility of what genuinely feels like a rural setting.
