If you like cooking, you will love my house.
I have recently returned from living in France. My house is 60 metres from the bus stops with frequent buses to Newcastle, Blyth etc. Google says I am 1h4m from Newcastle International Airport using that bus stop, which I think is amazing.
I am 1hr from Newcastle Haymarket by direct bus.
I have 2 two double bedrooms which I let out. Space is now extremely limited this year with only a few spare weeks, but both rooms are available from the end of February 2023. (£35-42pw extra if a couple share a room.) I book using Air Bnb and so don't take a deposit.
Washing machine.
Excellently equipped kitchen.
Shared bathroom, copious hot water shower with handset, no bath, sorry. (At a later date I intend Bedroom 2 to be en-suite.)
Parking is in the lane at the back which is very quiet and at the front. There is always space.
The living areas are cosy with a multi-fuel burner which I use all of the time, dining suite and sofas.
I have a garden with a shed which needs making presentable, so it's a hobby area and you'd be invited to join in if that's your inclination.
FINER DETAILS OF WHAT I PROVIDE
BEDS
All are double beds.
Mattress protectors must be used. I charge £5 for a new one at the beginning of stay,
I provide bedding but deduct £5 if you supply your own.
I provide towels and cleaning products but not personal shampoos etc,
I prioritise enquiries from those that have a photo and information about themselves. This here and on Air Bnb.
BEDROOM 1
This is front of house, like my own. It's on the main road but is quiet at night from 10pm to 6am when folks get out for work.
I can provide a desk/study area but it's not shown because most people won't need it.
BEDROOM 2
A quieter room, suitable for night shift and for students because of the in-built study area.
I have extra desks, one quite large should you need it which takes 3 PC monitors.
KITCHEN AREA
Twin sink
5 ring gas hob with wok.
Twin eye level electric oven, one fan one & grill type.
Eye level microwave grill.
Halogen oven.
Single Induction hob. (I got the halogen and induction for camping but they're great in the kitchen too.)
Pressure cooker.
Le Creuset cast iron pots.
Magimix pro mixer and ordinary domestic mixer.
Cook trays and pans.
Measuring jugs
Electronic scales.
Coffee grinder and stainless steel coffee makers.
Salt pig with Guerande Salt.
Maggi sauce....
Other stuff - I forget, but it's all available to use.
So I have plenty of cooking stuff and there's no need to rely on takeaways! FYI, the best Indian takeaway is in Stakeford...voted best takeaway in England this year.
CLOTHES/BEDDING/CARPET WASHING
I provide detergents bio/non bio from SMOL for the washer.
There are solar panels on the house which on a sunny day on the 20 degrees Hygiene setting cost zero electricity. It works very well and I use it all of the time where possible. Please use this as I do as much as you can.
I dry in the back yard. Air in front of the stove.
If you want to wash elsewhere the nearest launderettes are in Guide Post & Scotland Gate.
TELEVISION & INTERNET
I provide broadband through the 5G network. The current 5G I get is over 400Meg so if you have a 5G phone you may not even need to use my WiFi!!!. There are 3 5G transmitters within half a mile or so and I can even see one from bedroom 2!!
I don't watch TV so I don't have a TV licence. If you want to watch things that need a licence, please get one.
I watch Netflix etc and DVDs for when something I like isn't being streamed and isn't free.
MY WIFI
I provide a free internet access through WiFi. However, it's not open and I protect my systems from malware and a great deal of advertising. If you find that you can't access a certain website please tell me so that I can whitelist it. If I refuse because I consider it dodgy then you will have to use your own VPN. FYI, I use blocklists on my Pihole. (n. b. I used to work in IT and am a bit geek-ish)
DOs, DONT's and EXTRAS
No smoking in the house and clean up fags after yourself if you do smoke.
Don't dry loads of clothes in the bedrooms - be sensible.
Don't cook in the bedrooms.
There are no fridges in the bedrooms or cooking facilities. (I hated things like this on my travels so always turned the fridge off because of the hum). It's up to you if you want the hum in your bedroom but I don't supply one.
I have a small, unused fridge in the outhouse which can be roped into usage. The fridge-freezer in the kitchen is currently sufficient.
Couples in a room £6pw surcharge
Hot washes in the washer £1 surcharge per wash.
Unreasonable use of electric fires, as per smart meter. (This shouldn't be necessary but the use of any high energy equipment will attract a surcharge)
Guests are responsible for cleaning their own rooms - I have two vacuum cleaners!
I intend to make bedroom 2 en-suite, however this is for the future.
ABOUT ME
I am an easy going chap, previously in the music business with "Crawling Chaos" and latterly a software & database developer. In between I've run a delivery business and drove articulated lorries. I've even been a professional gardener... Recently, in France, my ex-partner & I let part of our house as a holiday home so I am used to a wide variety of people.
From my photos you'll gather that I don't like anything bland.....
I love bright colours, fine foods, country foods, working class foods of old like cassoulet, Indian foods.
I especially love steak done in the French Gascony way with a quick pan de-glaze and served with fine chopped shallots in salt and olive oil.
I also love duck breast (magret) but unfortunately they're not that large in England.
I enjoy good conversation on almost any topic and have a surreal stupid humour at times, i. e. I love both crap, stupid and clever jokes.
I don't like hurtful humour.
Soon I'll have the LPs in action.
If all of that sounds okay to you then I'd love to meet you.
LOCAL ENVIRONMENT
My house is a mile from the beach with Charlton's pub/restaurant. Lovely river walks that lead to that beach are just 300 yards away. The nearby wide expanse of Druridge Bay and its dunes lead you north to enter the land of castles, nature reserves, the National Park & Cheviot Hills.
South is Newcastle, universities, shopping and entertainment. West is Roman Wall country and a tad north is Kielder with the lake, boats, forest, riding and walks.
In my local area are the local amenities you'd expect.
A pub, post office & corner shop are on my doorstep next to the bus stops. A health centre next to the Post Office.
The house is Band A.
This gives a good idea of my house type. It was made before the Great War and is terraced and cosy. Fully double glazed with gas central heating that I don't use a lot because of the recent massive price increases. My stove is just plain great. Pun intended.
