Hello everyone, as the title suggests I'm looking for a lodger to share a house with me in Basford (I can never remember whether it's classed as New Basford or Old Basford, and quite frankly I can't be arsed to check right now). First things first and this is very important - although I rent here myself you would be a lodger not a tenant. The property agent didn't want another tenant in the contract after the last person but one left, and they told me I was free to take in a lodger. It's a slightly unusual arrangement but it is what it is, and for the lodger it doesn't make any difference whether I myself own or rent the property.
The property itself is a two bedroom terraced house with a garden ( at time of writing the British Army could use the garden for jungle warfare training, but it will be worked on later this week ). It's a few minutes walk from several supermarkets, pubs and fast food outlets. There's even a budget 24 hour gym across the road. The area is very well served by the yellow line NCT buses, and two tram stops are a short walk away. There are also nearby green bits, the forest rec being about a fifteen minute walk away. The neighbours are very nice people which always helps. There's no power shower, but the last lodger erected a basic shower which suffices. The cheap gym across the road obviously has showers as well. The house does appear rather dilapidated from the outside, which indeed I suppose it is. However, please don't let this put you off. It's okay for me and I'm sure it will be okay for someone else. My tenancy is unfurnished, but there is some basic furniture including a bed in the lodger's room. The internet is a little slow, but I'm thinking of changing or upgrading it. If I can overcome my procrastination problem I might actually do so.
A bit about the person you'll be living with - I'm an easygoing fifty five year old ambivert and people do tend to like me. An eighteen year old at my last job said I'd have made a great dad, which is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about me. I have very broad interests (a friend once called me a renaissance man), and I would say I'm an intellectual of sorts. I only became a graduate a few years ago, and frustratingly I haven't managed to do anything with it yet. I've just started a warehouse job which I will need to stick at for a while. I'm a renter myself as explained above, so I have more empathy for people who don't own their own home than most landlords. There'll be far less of the usual property owner vs renter tension.
Now the sort of person I'm looking for. I have no particular type of person in mind as I get on with all sorts. It doesn't matter whether you're a left wing activist or a Tory as I've had both types as friends over the years. I'm not bothered about how you make your money as long as it's legal, and you don't need to be a student or a professional as so many ads seem to require. I've no problem if you don't work for whatever reason, as long as you're good for the rent. I will be using the financial checking service spare room offers and I will need a reference. I'm sorry to be so strict with this, but the last lodger treated paying his share of the bills as an optional extra. I've no problem with pets within reason. We've had neutered cats here - now buried in the garden sadly. I'm unashamedly breedist when it comes to dogs. I'm not comfortable with bull terriers or security dogs, but other breeds should be okay although I'd have to check with the property agent. I've been advised against taking a lodger who wishes to work from home, mainly as I don't want high heating bills in the winter. I will consider a work from homer if they in turn would consider paying more rent.
My phone will be on 'do not disturb' whilst I'm at work but I'll check for messages at break times. If you call or text please make it obvious why you've contacted me as I'm wary of scams as we all should be. The best time for viewing would be the weekend, although I will consider midweek after about 1930 up until around 2100.
Anyway, I think I've covered everything so I look forward to hearing from you. Photos online within a week or so.
