Double Room Available - Iffley, Oxford

I’ve been subletting the room out for around four years now and have been lucky to have some wonderful long-term housemates. One moved back to Germany after around two years and my current housemate has been here for around a year and a half before moving in with her boyfriend, so I’m looking for somebody new to share this little corner of Iffley with.

The house is a small, cosy home shared with me and Arthur the cat. We have a slightly wild garden, a resident hedgehog living under the shed, a log burner for winter evenings, and easy access to riverside walks, cafés, farm shops and Oxford city centre.

The house is generally quite calm, friendly and comfortable. We both have our own lives, but chat in the kitchen, share the occasional sweet treat and keep each other in the loop about visitors and plans. It tends to suit somebody looking for a home rather than a highly social house share.

About Me

I work in clinical trials at Oxford University. Outside work I spend time gardening, doing yoga, walking, visiting farm shops, and generally finding excuses to be outdoors.

I’m friendly and sociable, but to tend to enjoy quiet evenings (especially during the week), downtime and having space to recharge.

You’ll also be sharing with Arthur. He’s a very affectionate cat, enjoys attention and is extremely proud of his tummy.

The Room

• Double bedroom overlooking the front of the house

The House

• Shared bathroom with bath and shower, plus your own storage cabinet for toiletries
• Shared living/dining room
• Garden with space to sit outside
• Dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, freezer and usual kitchen appliances
• Your own fridge
• Your own double kitchen cupboard
• Shared cookware, plates, glasses and kitchen equipment
• Log burner
• Bike storage in the shed if needed

The house is fully furnished and the communal spaces are already fairly settled, so it would suit somebody happy moving into an established home and where this would be of benefit. You’ll have plenty of space to make your room your own, but there isn’t really room for additional furniture/things in the shared areas but all that is there is there to be shared.

Costs

Room: £750 per month

Bills are split equally and currently consist of:

• Water: £35.50
• Internet: £14
• TV Licence: £6.50
• Council Tax (Band C): £99
• Gas & Electricity: variable depending on season and usage

This usually works out at approximately £960–£1,020 per month in total.

Deposit: £500

A Few Things That Probably Matter

The house would probably suit somebody who:

• Enjoys a fairly quiet home environment
• Likes (loves?) animals
• Is considerate and communicates openly
• Is reasonably tidy in shared spaces
• Is looking for a home rather than a revolving-door house share
• Works primarily outside the home

It’s not an immaculate show home. I can be a bit chaotic and occasionally need reminding that I’ve left washing in the machine. It’s a bad habit 😅

Hybrid working is absolutely fine, but we’ve found the house works best when somebody’s work is primarily based elsewhere. One thing my current housemate and I have both appreciated is that when one of us is on annual leave, the house still feels like a home rather than an office.

Guests are absolutely welcome. We generally just keep each other informed, a quick message to say someone is popping over for dinner or staying the night goes a long way.

• Short cycle to Cowley Road, Iffley and Oxford city centre
• Bus routes 3 and 3A nearby
• Around 30-40 minute walk into the city centre along the river
• Approximately 10 minute walk to the Isis Farmhouse
• Local Co-op and community shop within a few minutes’ walk
