Hi, we're Mark and Vince, a couple living in a spacious Victorian townhouse in Sunderland. The house is in a good area close to local shops and amenities, and only a short walk into Sunderland City Centre.
The property was built in 1895 and is our home. We take very good care of it and take a pride in the house. We have had a brand new kitchen fitted in 2024, and the house has all the facilities you could need, including 2 washing machines and a tumble dryer, 3 bathrooms and lots of cupboard and fridge / freezer space.
We have rented rooms to lodgers on and off for 14 years, and in that time we have gained a lot of experience as live-in landlords, and we have met many great (and some unusual) people. We take pride in providing a clean, quality home that is welcoming, and we expect in return that anyone sharing it with us will treat it with care. We provide much more than just a room as part of our lodger offer, so the price given includes:
*A cleaner who visits the house for 2 hours each week, keeping kitchen, bathrooms and hallways clean and tidy
*Cleaning products. We provide all the hand soap, tea towels, scourers, cling film, tin foil, refuse sacks, toilet rolls, and cleaning products you might need, making being a lodger here easy and straightforward and saving you money. We also find this makes life a lot easier as there are no quibbles over who last bought what and when
*Use of pots, pans, cutlery, plates and kitchenware is all included
*Wifi, council tax and utilities are included
Basically the price given above is the price you pay, and we provide a furnished room so all you need to provide for yourself is food, clothing and bedding.
The room available is the master bedroom. It has a comfortable, new bed with brand new mattress, two very large built in wardrobes, desk, chair, original fireplace and new herringbone style flooring. The room comes furnished with blackout curtains and plenty of space for clothing to be stored.
The bathroom has a bath and shower, WC and sink, and there is a separate WC and sink. We have our own bathroom on the ground floor.
The kitchen is shared and has a comfortable seating area that you are welcome to use. We also have a brand new range cooker and lots of cupboards. You will get your own cupboard and your own fridge / freezer space to store your food in.
We have a very loving young pup called Sid, who is a lurcher. We adopted him in November 2024 and he is a very lively young chap who is very friendly. He loves being petted and having his toys thrown for him to chase, and for all he spends most of his time with us he does have free roam in the kitchen and downstairs so the room would only be suitable for someone who likes dogs. For all this the house is kept clean, he is a short hair so sheds very little, and the property never smells of dogs! We keep it immaculate.
Over the 14 years we have welcomed lodgers we would like to think we have seen it all, but no doubt we haven't. We have had some truly amazing people live with us who we have kept in touch with and been a joy to live alongside, and others who have proven to not take care of the house and be a total nightmare. We have a zero tolerance policy on people who are aggressive, take drugs, are rude and who do not take care of the house and so please be very mindful of this before messaging. We want someone courteous who has strong values when it comes to tidying up after themselves and showing others the courtesy they are shown.
As the images show, the house is in great shape and we are quite picky about who we accept as lodgers. We will only accept working professionals (no students or unemployed, sorry), non-smokers and people who are tolerant and respectful. We have a very quiet house and it would not be suitable at all for someone who enjoys regular nights out and late nights.
